Zionsville Cruises Through Sectional

Zionsville advanced to regionals Monday as they won the Noblesville sectional by beating Noblesville 10-4.  Parker Dunshee (2013) was a key contributor throughout the sectional tournament, making appearences on the mound in all three games.  Dunshee was 86-88 mph while touching 89 in each of his three games, and only allowing four hits.

Noblesville advanced to the sectional championship with a bye in the first round and a 14-0 win over North Central in the semi-final.  Taran Murphy (2012) pitched a great game only giving up three hits.  Luke Porter (2013) and Garrett Welch (2012) lead the scoring for Noblesville, each scoreing three times and Welch hitting two triples.

Zionsville advanced to the sectional championship by defeating Hamilton Southeastern 2-0, and then beating Westfield 15-2.  Mic Richey pitched an excellent five innings against Hamilton Southeastern, allowing no runs and no hits to get the win. Zionsville’s two runs came on a single by Drew Small (2012) and on an errant pickoff throw.   Zionsville jumped on Westfield early scoring six runs in the first two innings, and adding five more in the sixth to make it 15-2. Dunshee, Ben Kocher (2014), and Nick Barrientos (2012) did most of the damage, each scoring three times with a combined four RBI between them.

In the sectional final, Noblesville managed to get on the board first with an early run in the first inning, but that lead did not last long as Zionsville scored two in the first and then five in the second. Noblesville managed to get three more throughout the game,  but Zionsville was able to match that with three more runs of their own. After a RBI single by Joel Trewartha (2012) in the sixth the score was 10-4, and that is where it would remain through the rest of the game.  Dunshee, Kocher, and Ohio State commit Troy Kuhn (2012) combined for five runs and five RBI.
