PBR sits down with Julian Flanary (2012)

Julian Flanary is a 6-foot-1 inch, 165 pound outfielder from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.  Flanary quickly opened the eyes of several D-1 college baseball programs this past spring after a standout season at LN.  At a PBR showcase this past winter, Flanary showed off a strong arm from the outfield (86-88 mph), a 6.87 sixty, and a solid round of BP.  In the field, he shows great range and athleticism, with fluid arm action.  At the plate he hits from the left side, with the ability to hit to all fields with good pop.  Look for Flanary to hit for average along with some power at the next level.  Read Below about his college choice. 

 

PBR: What schools were you considering?  IU and Miami University

Julian: IU and Miami University 

PBR: Why did you choose Miami of OH?

Julian: One of my first priorities was the academics.  I wanted to go to one of the best business schools in the country and play baseball at the D1 level.  Miami provided both of those opportunities.

PBR: Was it important to stay close home/travel ?

Julian: It was important to me to stay close to home.  It will be great to be able to play in front of friends and family at Miami

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Julian: Coach Simonds expects me to step up immediately and play at a high level, both defensively and at the plate.

PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?

Julian: I had no idea it would be so crazy.  Its tough to know what to expect but I thought it would be much easier than it was.  Lots of things to consider so it pays to do your homework early.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Miami? 

Julian: I think one of my biggest strengths as a player is my ability to get on base and score runs .  I feel I can help Miami at the plate and on the bases.

PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Julian: Travel baseball has allowed me the chance to play at a much higher level with players from across the country. 

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player? 

Julian: My dad had a profound impact in the early stages of my development as a ball player.   My high school coaches also played a huge role in helping me to the next level.  

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Lawrence North?

Julian: BA .380 /  OBP: .490 / Runs 29 / RBI 23 / 3 HR / 3 Triples / 8 Doubles

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Indiana?

Julian: Jared Ruxer (Lawrence Central, Louisville, 29th rd pick Cleveland Indians)
