Quick Hits: Rawlings Tigers Scout Day

Cooper Trinkle
Indiana Scouting Director

The Rawlings Tigers Scout Day kicked off our 2025 winter showcase schedule this past weekend. This is an annual event that we host at Silver Street Park in New Albany, Indiana for players' exclusively in the Tigers' organization. We had a handful of winners from this event that we highlight today, with the event stats found here.

Winners

+ '27 RHP Hayden Henry (Breckinridge County, Kentucky) made at statement at this event and undoubtedly walks away as the biggest winner. There is a loose whip to the arm action to pair with a supremely projectable, wiry, 6-foot-6, 182 pound frame. The fastball played at 86-89 with occasional sink, above average extension, and he ran it up 90 mph on his best bullet. With still 30-plus pound left on the frame, the velocity should continue to tick with more strength gains. He showed two usable off-speed offerings, including a tight, 72-74 mph slurve and a 79-82 mph changeup that showed flashes of a plus pitch, though inconsistent for now. Henry's bullpen was executed with above-average control. The delivery has room for refinements with some rawness present that will likely clean up with strength, maturation, and more mound time. Though just one look in a bullpen setting, I am extremely bullish on the ceiling of this sophomore arm out of Kentucky, and he is a name to keep tabs on for recruiters leading up to August 1.

+ '26 UTL/RHP Drake Goodpaster (Trinity Lutheran) performed well throughout the day. Offering a more physical and athletic look than seen previously, listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Goodpaster showed a solid left-handed hit tool in batting practice with several well-struck balls through the middle. The swing works on-plane with above average bat speed behind it, reaching a peak exit velocity of 92.2 mph at this event. He showed above average defensive actions in both the outfield and infield with above average arm strength throughout (85 infield, 87 outfield). Goodpaster also threw a well-commanded bullpen with an 81-84 mph fastball that played with carry, also showing feel to manipulate his breaking ball shape.

+ '26 C Will Bobay (Borden HS) is a physical catcher that showed solid tools to pair with an athletic, 6-foot, 185 pound frame. There is a loose rhythm to the operation in the right-handed batter's box, lifting the bat off the shoulder to counterbalance a heavier forward move. He showed off some bat speed & strength with exits reaching 96.3 mph, and his best balls were spun to the pull-side gap due to his loose, level swing plane. He showed off above average arm strength (77 from the crouch) and was energetic with feel to block during bullpens.

+ '28 SS Nathan Cooper (Providence) will be a freshman to follow out of southern Indiana. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound left-handed hitter showed barrel control and feel with several well-struck balls hit in the air to his pull-side. There is some twitch already in the well-connected, short, left-handed swing that produced a peak exit velocity of 87.5 mph. Cooper ran a 7.30 60-yard dash, an above average time for the age. In the middle infield, he showed quick feet with fringy hands and arm strength.
