Uncommitted 2026s: Arms Available

Cooper Trinkle
Indiana Scouting Director

Our 2026 class rankings are set to update on December 4th, the final update for 2024. We have 28 prospects committed to Division I programs thus far, and plenty more left to come. We have been well-documented in noting the depth of this class - so projecting out another 25-50 players from this class making Divison I commitments is a likely outcome, especially considering Indiana will generally produced anywhere from 55 to 75 Division I prospects in a given class. To tease the list coming out next week, we have put together lists highlighting some of the top uncommitted arms in the state.

+ Kobe Cherry headlines this group of uncommitted arms, a highly touted baseball recruit who holds several Division I football offers. His recruiting process was slowed a bit after a season-ending knee injury at the end of the spring, though he is still the top ranked uncommitted arm, and the top overall uncommitted player in the class. Cherry is a powerful athlete, standing at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, helping him establish a dominant presence on the bump that is backed by a fastball that we've had up to 93 mph. Kobe can manipulate shape on sharp spin, while also showing a serviceable changeup and above average command, proving he is more than just a power back-end presence.

+ RHP's Sam Gooch and Jeremy Lowrey are ranked as the No. 2 and No. 3 uncommitted arms, respectively. Gooch missed the summer due to injury, but bounced back with a huge fall circuit where he showed a big uptick in velocity - conisistently grabbing 90 mph in his outings. Gooch is an excellent athlete and the overall jump in velocity creates an exciting follow as he has traditionally been able to fill up the zone at will. Lowrey is another uncommitted arm known for his ability to fill up the zone. The high-waisted, projectable, 6-foot-2 right-hander features a fastball that works in the upper-80s (T 89) along with two usable offspeed offerings - and his best days' are well-ahead.

+ Four arms appear in a row that will be priorities for me to see early in 2025 : RHP Gavin Lykins, RHP Eric McAtee, LHP Kaden Maxwell, and RHP Jacob Morris. I would argue the three names above are a bit more proven than this group in terms of having a track record of consistency, though this group undoubtedly has upside and each of the four could make big jumps next spring. Lykins is an interesting right-hander that stands at 6-foot-5, 205 lbs. He hangs his hat on a good fastball, up to 89 mph at the Future Games with ride/run properties and above average extension, while complimenting it with a mid-70s slider that flashes upside. McAtee has the chance to be one of the harder throwers in the class with his uber-projectable, 6-foot-4 lanky, hyper-mobile frame. We saw McAtee up to 88 this fall, but its his loose, whippy arm action and carry properties with the fastball that allow for such a high ceiling. Maxwell, a big winner from our Fall State Games, jumps as the top ranked uncommitted southpaw in this update. His sturdy, 6-foot-2, 220 pound frame pairs with a well-sequenced delivery and compact arm action to produce a heavy fastball that reached 87 at the event. The heavy heater is complimented by innate feel for spin as he offers both a slider and curveball that spin north of 2500 - both potential swing-and-miss offerings. Morris rounds out this group - my favorite uncommitted mover in the class. The delivery is as athletic as one would expect from a two-way prospect that doubles as a shortstop, as he is able to get elite scap retraction as the arm action works quickly in a full circle. His fastball reaches into the upper-80s, complimenting a low-70s curveball that spins north of 2600. Strength gains could louden the fastball, which will allow all of his pitches to play up even further.

+ Kaleb Hacker is another arm that is an upside follow on this list, a very physical righty out on Northern Indiana that stands at 6-foot-6, 235 pounds. Hacker pitches from an outlier release height (6-foot-7). His upper-80s (T 89) heater works with six and a half feet of extension, with true carry properties from a steep angle, to allow it to play up even higher. His breaking ball is a serviceable offering that works in the mid-to-upper 70s, but the fastball is certainly the calling card here.

+ LHP Troy Barrett and RHP Cayden Stockbridge round out the list, two Northern Indiana natives that enjoyed solid sophomore springs and remain in the overall top 50. Barrett is one of the more reliable arms in the class, an undersized southpaw that dictates the at-bat by keeping hitters off balance. He carries the fastball up to 85 mph, though he predominantly pitches backwards with three above average offerings to go with a fastball that he has full command of. Stockbridge is an arm we have been on since the early days of evaluating this class, an athletic, 6-foot-2 right-hander with above average pitchability. His upper-80s (T 89) fastball plays with quality extension, working well with a firmer sweeper in the upper-70s and a heavily faded change at the same velocity.
