The Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches (KABC) released their 2015 All-State teams earlier this week. Coaches across the state nominate players for each class’s All-State teams, but cannot nominate their own players. On May 23rd coaches met in Wichita to make final selections for each team.

Today we are going to take a look at the 2015 4A-I KABC top award winners and All-State teams.

4A-I Player of the Year: Mason Knopp, Fort Scott

A year after being named to the KABC 4A-I All-State first team as a catcher, Fort Scott senior RHP/C Mason Knopp (Neosho County CC commit) takes home KABC 4A-I Player of the Year honors. At the plate Knopp hit .370 with eight doubles, 19 runs scored, and 16 RBI for the Tiger’s 17-5 state qualifying squad. On the mound the righty went 4-1 with a 1.32 ERA, logging 53 innings while giving up 36 hits and posting an impressive 71:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

4A-I Pitcher of the Year: Brogan Heinen

Topeka Hayden senior RHP/1B Brogan Heinen (Kansas State commit), last spring’s KABC 4A-I Player of the Year, has been named 2015 KABC 4A-I Pitcher of the Year. The righty went 8-0 with a 0.65 ERA and two saves while pitching 53 innings, giving up 26 hits, seven runs, 15 walks and striking out 70. Heinen also hit .452 with nine doubles, a triple, three home runs and drove in 30 runs.

4A-I Coach of the Year: Bill Arnold

In a league made up primarily of 6A and 5A schools, it was the 4A-I Topeka Hayden Wildcats that navigated through the Centennial League with a 17-1 record, their only loss was at the hands of Manhattan RHP Jesse Steinbring, a 2014 and 2015 KABC 6A All-State pitcher. In five post-season contests Hayden went 5-0, outscoring their opponents 41-2 on their way to capturing the 4A-I state title in Salina. The Wildcats finished with a 24-1 overall record. For his efforts in guiding Hayden to one of the best season’s in Kansas high school baseball history, Bill Arnold has been named KABC 4A-I Coach of the Year.
