The Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches (KABC) released their 2015 All-State teams last week. Coaches across the state nominate players for each class’ All-State teams, but cannot nominate their own players. On May 23rd coaches met in Wichita to make final selections for each team.

Today we are going to take a look at the 2015 4A-II KABC top award winners and All-State teams.

Player of the Year: Conner VanCleave, Holcomb

Holcomb sophomore LHP/1B Conner VanCleave did it all for the Longhorns this spring – on the mound and at the plate. The lefty posted an 8-1 record with one save, a miniscule 0.38 ERA and 106 strikeouts, logging close to half of Holcomb’s innings (62.1) on the season. In his first two seasons at the varsity level he has posted a 16-4 overall record. Offensively, the physical 6-foot-6, 210-pound left-hand hitter hit .698 with 17 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 29 RBI. He walked 18 times with only four strikeouts – his on-base percentage was .785 and he slugged at a 1.151 clip. For his efforts VanCleave was named KABC 4A-II Player of the Year.

Pitcher of the Year: Caleb Rogge, rock creek

The KABC 4A-II Pitcher of the Year award goes to Rock Creek junior RHP Caleb Rogge. The righty went 7-0 with five saves (in five opportunities) and threw 50 innings giving up 25 hits, 22 walks while striking out 74 batters. In the first round of the state tournament Rogge tossed a complete game in Creek’s 3-2 win over Colby and came back the next day to notch a one-inning save in the 2-0 championship game as the Mustangs captured the 4A-II title in Topeka.

Coach of the Year: Shane Sieben, rock creek

Rock Creek Head Coach Shane Sieben has been named KABC 4A-II Coach of the Year. The first-year head coach inherited a talented squad from former Mustange head coach Chad Herren, now an assistant coach at Washburn University, but also pressed all the right buttons throughout the course of the regular season and playoffs as Creek finished with a 22-2 record and 4A-II state championship.

4A-II All-State Underclassmen

+ Colby sophomore Brooks Curry was named to the KABC 4A-II All-State First Team after hitting .416 with 10 runs scored and 15 RBI.

+ SS Braden Stewart of Nickerson, a sophomore, was named to the KABC 4A-II All-State Second Team. He hit .419 with 30 runs scored, 13 RBI and 19 stolen bases this spring.

+ Sophomore RHP Cole Larsen of Concordia posted a 7-2 record with a save and 0.95 ERA this spring to earn KABC 4A-II All-State First Team honors. On the spring, Larsen threw 58.2 innings and gave up 36 hits, 18 walks while fanning 74 batters.
