As we prepare for the upcoming 2017 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.

Season OutlooK

Heath Gerstner will start his 3rd season at McPherson after taking over a 7-14 program.  Coach Gerstner has gone 33-14 in two seasons as head coach, and looks to keep the trend going in 2017.  Last season, the Bullpups fell to eventual state champion, Buhler, in the regional finals.  McPherson has four returners with 2016 post season honors looking to build on last years success and keep the Bullpup program moving in the right direction.  Junior All-State SS Dylan Werries will look to build on a great sophomore year and senior 3B, Cason Hoover, will solidify the line up.  The Bullpups X-Factor will be RHP Jack Reifscheider, a multi-sport athlete and arguable one of the best defensive centerfielders in Kansas, and will be the number one arm in the rotation.  Alex Kalkorst, an Honorable Mention All-League catcher in 2016, will add experience behind the plate.  Also look for junior 2B Gunnar Reiss to play an increased role this spring.  McPherson will be a team that competes at the end of year and look for them to make another run in the state tournament.
