Between The Lines Scout Day: Left-Handed Pitchers Analysis

On January 15, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the the Between The Lines Baseball Academy Scout Day.  Over forty players attended the event in the 2021 to 2018 classes.  

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the left-handed pitchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.


Left-Handed Pitchers

Nicholas Brickman OF / LHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2018


Brickman is a 5-foot-11 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Brickman has an over the top arm slot, in line stride, throw with some effort, works downhill, fastball at 70-73 mph, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 57-61 mph, some with late sink, 12-to-6 shape on breaking ball, 56-57 mph, gradual late break.

Zachary Brink 1B / LHP / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2021

Brink is a 5-foot-7 145-ound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Brink has a controlled tempo to release, acclerates down the mound, works from from an over the the top release, lands slightly open, finishes in athletic position, fastball flashes running action, 67-68 mph, breaking ball has 1-to-7 shape, gradual break, 62-64 mph, change up has occasional arm side sink, 61-62 mph. 

Adrian Caggianelli LHP / OF / Olathe East, KS / 2019

Cagianelli is a 5-foot-7 147-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Caggianelli has a controlled and repeatable delivery, throws with regular effort, slight rotation at balance point, over the top release, works in line down the mound, fastball at 69-72 mph, throws to both sides of the plate,  breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, throws for a strike, change up at 64-66 mph, arm side sink.

Michael Infranca LHP / 1B / Blue Springs , MO / 2021

Infranca is a 5-foot-8 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Infranca acclerates down the mound after a controlled leg lift, repeats delivery, over the top release, in line stride, strike thrower, fastball at 68-74 mph, works down in the zone, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, lands for a strike, change up has slight sink 61-63 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed.

Drew Powers OF / LHP / Mill Valley, KS / 2021

Powers has a strong build 5-foot-8 163-pound left-hadned pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Powers’ body stays under control during his delivery, lifts knee straight up and work in line down the mound, high three quarters arm slot, throws with regular effort, fastball at 73-74 mph, occasional running action, curveball has 1-to-7 shape, 55-56-mph, change up at 67-68 mph, slight sink.

Andrew Sherman LHP / OF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2020

Sherman is a 5-foot-7 122-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Sherman has a clean over the top arm slot, works straight up with leg lift, stay in line down the mound, repeats delivery, works downhill, finishes in position ready to field, fastball at 65-68 mph, breaking ball looks to be good pitch as he continues to throw, 12-to-6 shape, flashes sharp action, 56-57 mph, throws change up with fastball arm speed, 63-65 mph, occasional sinking action.

Connor Sherman LHP / 1B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2020

Sherman is a 5-foot-9 145-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Sherman works from an over the top arm slot, controlled leg lift, body stays under control, creates direction towards the plate with stride, fastball at 66-68 mph, change up has slight arm side sink, 66-68 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed.

Denton Whiteside LHP / 1B / Rockhurst, MO / 2021

Whiteside is a lean and loose frame at 5-foot-11120-pounds. He is a left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Whiteside works from a high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, repeats release point, in line stride, body stays under control, fastball at 62-64 mph, showed a 1-to-7 breaking ball with gradual break, change up has slight arm side running action, 52-58 mph, long limbs with ability to put on strength and arm action would suggest increases as he continues to mature.
