Between The Lines Scout Day: Middle Infield Analysis

On January 15, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the the Between The Lines Baseball Academy Scout Day.  Over forty players attended the event in the 2021 to 2018 classes.  

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the Middle infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Middle Infielders

Logan Alexander 2B / RHP / Olathe Northwest , KS / 2019

Alexander is a lean and long 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.90 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts loaded in back side, minimal load, loose pre-swing rhythm in hands, short in line stride, shows some range in swing, mostly middle to pull side contact during batting practice, hands create bat whip. On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, works around the ball with active feet, over the top release, clean exchange, quick catch and throw.

Nyle Banks SS / RHP / Olathe North , KS / 2021

Banks is a 5-foot-7 137-pound switch-hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.89 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velo from the right side and a 76 mph exit velo from the left side. At the plate, starts slightly open on both sides, no wasted movement during load, simple leg lift, short in line stride, level path through extension, gap to gap approach, body stays under control.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, over the top release, fluid to the ball, gains ground with feet after the catch, clean exchange, soft hands, field ball in athletic position, lean frame, loose arm action and athletic actions would suggest increases in the future. 

Austin Bell 2B / OF / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2019

Bell is a 5-foot-8 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts slightly open, smooth load into back leg, controlled leg lift, accelerates aggressively to the ball, quick hands, gap to gap line drives, flashes pull power.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, quick transfer, quick and athletic feet, works through the ball, accurate throws.

William Brant 2B / RHP / Shawnee Mission East, KS / 2021

Brant is a 5-foot-7 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has a 74 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, thin stance with a slight raise into an attacking position to load, hands work downhill to contact, in line stride, swing produced middle to pull side contact, aggressive.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, over the top release, short arm circle, quick transfer, hands and feet work on time together, mostly accurate throws.

Quelann Coleman Jr SS / 2B / Raytown , MO / 2021

Coleman is an athletically built 5-foot-9 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 4.64 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and thin stance, slight smooth load into back side, quiet hands, short in line stride, quick hands though the zone, gap to gap contact, occasional pull side power.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velocity, smooth and under control to the ball, fields ball out front, high three quarters arm slot, clean transfer playing through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Dakota Duran C / 2B / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2021

Duran is a 5-foot-8 130-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.90 home to first and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin and stall stance, leg lift to in line stride, hands generate level path and quick bat speed, stays on ball after contact, gap to gap approach, some pop to the pull side. On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, over the top release, fluid footwork to the ball, clean exchanges, fields ball out front, mostly accurate throws.

Jackson Hylton 2B / SS / Liberty North , MO / 2019

Hylton is a 5-foot-7 134-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has a 73 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in an athletic and open stance, smooth rock into back leg, controlled leg lift, strides slightly open, level path through extension, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, feet create momentum to throw, fluid glove to hand transfer. 

David Robinson 2B / OF / Bishop Miege, KS / 2018

Robinson is a strong 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.30 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velocity. On the infield, balanced stance, weight shift to load in lower half, hands load along the line of the pitch, short stride, in line, level path, pull side power with ability to drive the opposite field gap.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velocity, loose over the top release, arm works from all angles, quick feet playing through the ball, aggressive, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Tyson Scott 2B / SS / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2018

Scott is a athletic 5-foot-11 162-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.71 home to first and has a 63 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in wide and open stance, weight shit in lower half to load, level bat path, mostly middle to pull side line drives.  On the infield, 63 mph positional velocity, over the top release, controlled actions to the ball, feet gain ground after the catch, fluid exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Braeden Trondson / C / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2020

Tronsdon is a 5-foot-8 140-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has a 80 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, short in line stride, has separate from stride, smooth load, body stays under control, quick hands, level path through contact, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, clean glove to hand transfers, fields ball in position ready to throw, works through the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Draven Webb SS / RHP / Veritas Christian , KS / 2021

Webb is a well built 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.81 home to first and has a 78 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced set up, sinks into legs to load, simple in line stride, works through contact to extension, shows some range in swing, gap to gap contact, occasional pull side power.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, quick with feet to the ball, clean tenser, mostly accurate throws.
