Between the Lines Scout Day: Infielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Between the Lines Scout Day at The BTL Baseball Facility in Shawnee, Kansas.  Nearly twenty-five players participated in the 2022 to 2019 classes from around the area.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the infielders from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

Infielders

William Brant 2B / 3B / Shawnee Mission East, KS / 2021

Brant is a well built 5-foot-8 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the plate, balanced set up, loads against back side, no wasted movement, quiet hands, short to contact, quick bat speed, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, short over the top arm slot, quick and active footwork, arm works with athletic action, soft hands, plays through the ball with momentum in footwork, 82 mph positional velocity.

Zachary Brink 1B / LHP / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2021

Brink is a 5-foot-9 180-pond left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.63 home to first and had a 70 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open loaded in back leg, minimal load, simple and repeatable, slightly closed stride, feel for the barrel, loose hands, gap to gap line drives. At first base, short three quarters arm slot, accurate throws with carry, soft hands and clean exchange, quick catch and throw with momentum from feet, 80 mph positional velocity.

Jonathan Davis 2B / SS / Olathe West, KS / 2022

Davis is a 5-foot-5 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 4.56 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slightly open stance, toe tap, in line stride, quite hands, short to contact, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with footwork, gains ground after the catch, fields the ball out front, clean transfer, 63 mph positional velocity.

Dakota Duran C / 2B / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2021

Duran is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load with accelerated hands, simple and repeatable, quick bat speed, gap to gap line drives, level bat path.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, stays under control, fields ball in athletic position, soft hands.

Hayden Dyer C / 3B / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2021

Dyer is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.41 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in open stance, controlled load to back side with toe tap, short in line stride, level path, middle to pull side line drives.  On the infield, aggressive with footwork to the ball and through the catch, gains ground after exchange, short high three quarters arm slot, clean exchange, fields ball in athletic position, 83 mph positional velocity, mostly accurate throws.

Tristen Everard OF / 2B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021

Everard is a lean 6-foot 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.30 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts open, minimal load with pre-pitch rhythm in hands, showed range in swing, hands manipulate the barrel, quick bat speed, line drives to all fields, high finish. On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, clean transfer with quick release after catch, fluid footwork to the ball, fields ball in athletic position, mostly accurate throws.

Jake Emhardt SS / 2B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Emhardt is a 5-foot-11 150-pound left handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.50 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts loaded in back side, reverse toe tap to stride, balanced and under control, hands manage the bat, high finish, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, fluid actions to the ball with footwork, plays through the ball with clean exchange, creates momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws, 81 mph positional velocity.

James Mendez 2B / RHP / Lansing , KS / 2021

Mendez is a 5-foot-7 155-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.59 home to first and had a 72 mph positional velocity, starts in open stance, slight hand rhythm pre pitch, loaded in back side, attacks ball, simple and short stride, compact swing, middle to pull side contact during hitting evals.  On the infield, high three quarters release, made all plays cleanly, quick transfer and throw, active footwork to the ball, fluid actions, 72 mph positional velocity.

Hunter Milstead 1B / OF / Olathe South , KS / 2020

Milstead is a 6-foot 162-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 4.37 home to first and had a 72 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth pre-pitch rhythm, controlled leg lift, slight lift in bat path, stays in back leg, middle to pull side contact during hitting evals. At first base, 69 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, stays under control to the ball, clean exchange, fields ball out front, accurate throws.

Ryan Rast 3B / OF / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Rast is a strong 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 4.37 home to first and has a 97 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a tall and thin stance, slightly open, high hands, minimal load, in line stride, hits with leverage in back leg, flashed pull power, level swing path. On the infield, over the top arm slot, gains ground with feet after the catch, plays behind the ball, fluid exchange, accurate throws, 79 mph positional velocity

Collin Schroeder SS / 2B / Mill Valley, KS / 2023

Schroeder is a 5-foot-7 120-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2023 class. He ran a 4.87 home to first and has a 69 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, loads with weight shift to back side, level path, showed feel for the barrel with range in swing, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, short over the top arm slot, quick catch and release, fluid footwork on time with exchange, plays through the ball, 57 mph positional velocity.

Triston Speaker SS / 2B / Topeka West , KS / 2021

Speaker is a 5-foot-6 135-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the plate, open stance, simple and efficient load, no wasted movement, short in line stride, loose hands, level path, middle to pull side contact, occasional oppo line drive.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball with footwork, gains ground after the catch, fields ball in athletic position, fluid exchange, 70 mph positional velocity.
