Building Champions Scout Day: 2020 Infielders Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Building Champions Scout Day on February 22 at The Yard XL in Olathe, KS.  Over sixty-five players participated in the 2022 to 2018 classes.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the 2020 Infielders from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

2020 Infielders 

Kevin Charlton 3B / RHP / St. James Academy, KS / 2020

Charlton is a 6-foot-2 200-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 4.84 home to first, a 7.80 60 and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a wide base, loads with a weight shift to back side, minimal hand load, short in line stride, bat path is level through extension, stays under control, middle of the field line drives during hitting evals.  On the infield, short high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws, 71  mph positional velocity.

Zach Lauvetz 2B / SS / Rockhurst, MO / 2020

Lauvetz is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri's 2020 class. He ran a 7.69 69, a 4.81 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, starts loaded in back side, no wasted movement with quiet hands, short in line stride, level bat plane, swing produced gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, fields ball out front in athletic position, gains ground with footwork after catch, accurate throws, 80 mph positional velocity.

Jackson Mehlin 2B / SS / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020

Mehlin is a 6-foot-1 175-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas' 2020 class. He ran a 7.25 60, a 4.82 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a slightly open stance, hands raise slightly to load, smooth and repeatable swing, feel for the barrel, gap to gap approach, flashes pull side power.  On the infield, high three quarters release, clean exchange with smooth actions, footwork on time with hands, quick catch and throw, accurate throws, 75 mph positional velocity.

Michael Paule SS / 2B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Paule is a 6-foot 174-pound shortstop in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 7.50 0, a 5.06 60 and an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, smooth weight shift to back side, in line stride, accelerated hands, level path with one hand finish at times, stays under control.  On the infield, quick to the ball with footwork, clean exchange, feet create momentum to throw with quick shuffle after fielding the ball, mostly accurate throws, 76 mph positional velocity.

Gavin Rein OF / 3B / Olathe South, KS / 2020

Rein is a lean 6-foot-2 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 7.16 60, a 4.52 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and balanced set up, no wasted movement in load, short in line stride, level bat plane, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, long arm circle, clean transfer with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, 75 mph positional velocity. 

Eastin White 2B / SS / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020

White is a 6-foot 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 7.19 60, a 4.67 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load to back side, some pre-swing rhythm in hands, in line stride, level path with loose hands, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer and throw, fields ball in athletic position with clean transfer, accurate throws, 75 mph.
