Central Kansas Summer Trials: Outfield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Kansas held the Central Kansas Summer Trials in Hutchinson, Kansas on Tuesday, July 12.  Nearly 30 players in the 2019-2017 classes from the region participated. 

Player's profiles have been updated with profile picture, velos, times and videos.  We will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the outfielders performances today.  Although, some outfielders may have participated various positions, this is just a look at the outfield performances.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

OUTFIELDERS

Wyatt Akins, OF, Hutchinson, 2017
Akins is a 5-foot-9 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.04 60, one of the top times of the event, and a 4.52 home-to-first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic and balanced set up with rhythm, short and early stride, in line, gap-to-gap approach, hands are loose with level path, mostly line drives to the middle of the field during batting practice.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, moves well to the ball, creates momentum thought he catch, over the top release, fluid catch and throw, mostly accurate throw with back spin.

Cole Caraway, OF, Goddard Eisenhower, 2018  
Caraway is a 5-foot-8 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.05 60, one of the top 60 times of the event, and a 5.42 home-to-first.  He has a 73 mph exit velo.  At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load, hands separate from stride, stays on ball after contact, solid consistent contact gap-to-gap during batting practice.  In the outfield, 70 mph positional velo, over the top release, aggressive to the ball, fluid footwork, clean transfer, accurate throws.

Harrison Denk, OF, Andale, 2017
Denk is a 5-foot-8 148-pound switch-hitting hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and a 4.05 home-to-first, one of the top times of the event.  He has a left-handed exit velo of 81 mph, and a right-handed exit velo of 85 mph, one of the top of the day.  At the plate, gap-to-gap approach from right side, uses middle of the field, short path to contact, feel for the barrel, on the left side, middle-oppo approach, open stance, smooth rhythm, loose hands. In the outfield, over the top release, arm works, momentum through the catch, quick catch and throw, athletic footwork, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the day from the outfield, mostly accurate throws, with back spin carry.

Zachary Farmer, OF, Salina Central, 2018
Farmer is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’2 2017 class.  He ran a 6.87 60, one of the top 60 times of the event, and a 4.41 home-to-first, also one of the top times of the day.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, hands work in side the ball, opposite field line drives, aggressive swing, quick bat speed.  In the outfield, over the top release, crow hop, fluid exchange, aggressive to the ball, throws down hill, mostly accurate throws, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos on the day.  

Blake Freeman, OF, Bishop Carroll, 2018
Freeman is a 5-foot-9 152-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.46 home-to-first.  He has a 79 mph exit velo.  At the plate, balanced set up, controlled leg kick, smooth weight shift to back side, minimal hand load, pull side line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event, high three-quarters arm slot, loose arm action, fluid footwork working the transfer in hands, accurate throws.

Samuel Kissane, OF, Maize South, 2017
Kissane is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and a 4.40 home-to-first, one of the top times of the event.  He has an 83 mph exit velo, on of the top among LHH. At the plate, physical hitter, starts loaded in back leg, short stride, consistent middle to oppo contact, flashes power to middle of the field.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick catch and throw, moves well to the ball, plays through the catch, 85 mph positional velo, top outfield velo on the day.

Andrew Rogers, OF, Wamego, 2019
Rogers is a 5-foot-11 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.84 60 and a 4.50 home-to-first.  He has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, smooth load with rhythm, middle to opposite field line drives, feel for the barrel.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, works behind ball, gains ground to throw, fluid transfer, mostly accurate throws. 

Braden Stewart, OF, Nickerson, 2017
Stewart is a 6-foot-3 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and a 4.45 home-to-first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, tall and thin stance in base, controlled leg lift to stride, bat accelerates, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, over the top release, works behind the ball, momentum through the catch, fluid footwork working with transfer, 78 mph positional velo.

Carson Zenger, OF, Rock Creek, 2018
Zenger is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.65 60 and a 4.56 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo, one of the top on the day. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg kick, accelerated swing, level though the zone, stays on ball after contact, consistent line drives to the middle of the field.  In the outfield, short high three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, creates momentum through the catch, clean transfer, mostly accurate throws, 81 mph positional velo.
