Class of 2019 Games: Outfielders Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Kansas/Missouri held the Class of 2019 Games at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas on June 26.  Nearly 40 players in the 2019 class from Missouri and Kansas attended.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catcher from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Here is a break down of the outfielders from the Kansas Underclass Games.

OUTFIELDERS

Colten Cassida C / SS / Gardner Edgerton , KS / 2019

Cassida has an athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds and is a right-handed hitting outfielder and middle infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.38 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 86 mph. During batting practice, Cassida starts in a balanced stance, knee pinch with lower half into his load, slightly closed off stride, showed line drive contact to center and left field. Defensively in the outfield, he works behind the ball, clean transfers, quick feet, high ¾ arm slot, positional velo of 81 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the infield, Cassida  shows quick feet, clean transfers, momentum towards first base, positional velo of 78 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Jason Dudzik OF / SS / Olathe South, KS / 2019

Dudzik is an athletic 6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder from Kansas’ Olathe South HS. He ran 7.11 60, 4.32 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. During batting practice, Dudzik starts with an open stance, longer stride, quiet load with hands, good extension through the baseball, ball jumps off his barrel, showed pop to left field, gap-to-gap approach. During game action, he had a single, double and stolen base. Defensively, Dudzik has good actions, long and clean arm action, moves well with long easy strides, ball carries, positional velo of 83 mph, accurate throws.

Zachry Hanlan OF / C / Central St Joseph, MO / 2019

Hanlan has a large frame and strong build at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds. At the event he ran a 4.34 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 91 mph. During batting practice, Hanlan has a balanced stance, leg lift, loose hands, quick bat, strong lower half, showed hard contact to all fields, plus pop to all fields, during game action he tripled to RCF. Defensively, Hanlan shows off a strong arm, positional velo of 80 mph, accurate throws, high ¾ arm slot, ball carries, momentum towards target.

Korbin Hiebert OF / LHP / Eudora, KS / 2019

Hiebert has a slender and athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 165-pounds. He ran a 7.20 60, 4.28 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80. During batting practice, Hiebert showed an simple load, shorter stride, loose hands, easy swing, line drive contact, gap-to-gap approach. Defensively, he has easy arm action, high ¾ release, positional velo of 75 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Hiebert throws from an over the top arm slot, easy arm action, smooth delivery, gains momentum down the mound, fastball is 71-76 mph, throws a 2-seam with arm side run, high percentage of strikes, changeup shows some depth, near fastball armspeed, 63-64 mph, high percentage of strikes, curveball has 12-to-6 shape, thrown for strikes, 62-63 mph.

Brett Kennett SS / OF / Olathe South , KS / 2019

Kennett has large frame and athletic build at 6-foot-4, 185-pounds. He ran a 7.15 60, 4.42 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. During batting practice, Kennett starts in a wider but athletic stance, minimal load, quick hands, flat barrel path, hard contact to all fields. In the outfield, he works behind the baseball, long and clean arm action, ball has some carry, positional velo of 86 mph, accurate throws. On the infield, Kennett has good actions, quick arm, momentum towards first base, positional velo of 78 mph, accurate throws. On the mound, Kennett has a fluid and repeatable delivery, quick and loose arm action, works downhill, high ¾ arm slot, fastball is 79-82 mph, high percentage of strikes, cut action, changeup is 71-73 mph, occasional cut, curveball is 70-71, sharp bite at times, 11-to-5 shape, used primarily as an out pitch in game action. 

Bryson Matthews OF / 2B / Webb City, MO / 2019

Matthews is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder from Webb City, MO. He ran a 4.47 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. During batting practice, Matthews has a quiet load, in line stride, good barrel control, flat bat path, overall smooth swing with some rhythm to it, line drives to CF and RF, singled during game action. Defensively, Matthews has good actions, high ¾ arm slot, positional velo of 77 mph, mostly accurate throws, clean transfers. 

 

Duffin Makings OF / 1B / Marshall , MO / 2019

Makings has a strong, athletic build at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds. He ran a 4.19 home-to-first, one of the quickest times at the event, and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. During batting practice, Makings has quiet hands, leg lift into his load, good barrel control, balanced throughout swing, contact to all fields with pop. Defensively, Makings shows off his athleticism, fluid footwork, works behind the baseball, good reads, high ¾ arm slot, long and clean arm action, positional velo of 70 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Nicholas McGowan OF / Holy Family High School, CO / 2019

McGowan is a 6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Colorado’s 2019 class from Holy Name HS. McGowan has a large frame and long levers with room to fill out. He ran a 4.62 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During batting practice, McGowan has balanced set up, quiet load, in line stride, leverages up his front side, flat bat path, remains balanced throughout his swing, doubled to RCF during game action. Defensively, McGowan attacks the baseball, high ¾ arm slot, long clean arm action, ball carries, momentum towards his target, positional velo of 76 mph, mostly accurate throws

 

Alec Michaud OF / SS / Fort Scott , KS / 2019

Michaud has an athletic build at 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds from Ft. Scott HS. At the event he ran a 7.05 60, 4.16 home-to-first, quickest time at the event, and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. During batting practice, Michaud shows a repeatable swing, quiet load, flat bat path, remains balanced throughout, showed hard line drive and ground ball contact to LF, during game action he singled to LF and tripled down RF line. Defensively, Michaud is very aggressive to the baseball, ¾ arm slot, momentum towards target, positional velo of 80 mph, fairly accurate throws.
