College Crosscheck: Week Five Pitchers

FAYETTEVILLEArk.-. After spending last week scouting on the West Coast it was time to stay in the middle of the country and catch an SEC Opener. Where better to do this than at beautiful Baum-Walker Stadium with several thousand Razorback fans “Calling the Hogs” and a couple dozen others heckling the opposing team. It was also an opportunity to catch several top round arms from both Arkansas and Mizzou. As for tools and talent, here’s what I saw…

No. 45 Matt Cronin, LHP, Arkansas- Aggressive, strong-armed, strong-bodied lefty with a big fastball and an average to above average curveball. Overpowered hitters during his first appearance of the weekend on Friday night with a 92-95 mph fastball. Less than 24 hours later he bounced back with a 92-94 mph heater for another save to close out Saturday’s game. Mixed in a slower 74-76 mph curveball during the four batters he faced Friday, then ran it up to 78 mph with tighter spin and harder break on Saturday. Graded out as...
