Fall Underclass Games: Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri/Kansas held the Fall Underclass Games at the University of Kansas on Saturday, October 20.  Over 50 players in the 2021-2022 classes from around the region attended.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Catchers

Alex Biondo C / 3B / Ray-Pec, MO / 2022

Biondo is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting middle infield and catching prospect in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.97 60 yard dash, 4.64 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 74 mph. During batting practice, Biondo starts with a slightly opened stance, quiet load with a toe-tap into backside, simple swing, high finish with hands. On the infield, he attacked the baseball, showed clean transfers, high three-quarter arm slot, positional velocity of 69 mph, fairly accurate throws. Behind the plate, Biondo has an athletic and balanced set up, clean transfers, high three-quarter arm slot, pop times between 2.22 and 2.35 seconds, positional velocity of 70 mph, accurate throws.

Ryan Carolan C / RHP / St. John Vianney, MO / 2021

Carolan is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event he ran a 6.93 second 60 yard dash, 4.40 home-to-first and posted an 86 mph exit velocity, second highest recorded at the event. During batting practice, Carolan starts with a wide stance, quiet load, in line stride, level bat path, extension through the baseball, showed hard contact and plus pop to left field. Defensively, Carolan has clean transfers, longer arm action, high three-quarter arm slot, pop times between 2.14 and 2.20 seconds, positional velocity of 60 mph.

Mitchael Casement C / 3B / Maize, KS / 2021

Casement is a 5-foot-10, 75-pound right-handed hitting catcher and corner infielder in Kansas’ 2021 class out of Wichita. At the event he ran a 8.15 second 60 yard dash, 4.71 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. During batting practice, Casement shows a simple, compact and repeatable swing, hard line drives to the middle of the field, athletic stance, level bat path, showed feel for the barrel. Defensively on the infield, Casement attacked the baseball, showed clean transfers, high three-quarter arm slot, positional velocity of 70 mph, accurate throws. Behind the plate, he has an athletic set up, clean transfers, longer arm action, pop times between 2.19 and 2.27 seconds, positional velocity of 71 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Will Finke C / 3B / Bishop Miege , KS / 2021

Finke is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 8.13 60 yard dash and a 4.96 home-to-first. Finke posted an exit velocity of 76 mph. During batting practice, Finke starts in an athletic stance, even stride, simple load, quiet hands, extension through the baseball, level bat path, sprays the ball to all fields. Behind the plate, Finke has a narrow set up, clean transfers, longer arm action, over the top arm slot, positional velocity of 67 mph, mostly accurate throws and showed pop times between 2.22-2.34 seconds at the event.

Connor Hines C / OF / Marquette , MO / 2021

Hines is 5-foot-8 and 162-pound right-handed hitting catching prospect in Missouri’s 2021 recruiting class. He ran a 7.35 second 60 yard dash, 4.51 home-to-first and posted an 81 mph exit velocity. During batting practice, Hines showed hard contact to all fields, athletic set-up, simple weight shift load, showed feel for the barrel, minimal head movement, high finish with hands, repeatable swing. Defensively behind the plate, Hines showed quick actions, clean transfers, high three-quarter arm slot, pop times between 2.15 and 2.32 seconds, positional velocity of 68 mph, fairly accurate throws

Dillon Houk C / 3B / Liberty North , MO / 2022

Houk is a big bodied 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher and corner infield prospect in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.76 second 60, 4.41 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 81 mph. At the plate, starts open, simple weight shift to load, some rhythm with hands, slightly closed off stride, level bat path. Defensively on the infield, Houk moves well side-to-side, attacks the baseball, clean transfers, positional velocity of 69 mph, mostly accurate throws. Behind the plate, quick transfer to release, high three-quarter release, positional velocity of 66 mph, pop times between 2.17-2.28 seconds, mostly accurate throws.

Brady Kaplan C / 3B / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2021

Kaplan is a 5-foot-9, 195-pound right-handed hitting catching prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event he ran a 8.15 second 60 yard dash, 4.70 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. During hitting evaluations, Kaplan showed hard line drive contact to the middle and pull side of the field, simple load with rhythm to his hands, showed extension through the baseball, minimal stride, level bat path, repeatable swing. Defensively, behind the plate, Kaplan showed quick actions, fluid footwork, clean transfers, over the top arm slot, pop times between 2.07 and 2.26 seconds, positional velocity of 69 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Matt Lancaster C / OF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2022

Lancaster is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound, strong bodied right-handed hitting catching prospect in Kansas’ 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.31 second 60 yard dash, 4.40 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During hitting evaluations, Lancaster sprayed contact to all fields, shows a quiet load with a simple weight shift to his backside, remains balanced throughout swing, longer stride, level bat path, repeatable swing. Defensively, Lancaster shows an athletic set up, clean transfers, quiet hands, quick side-to-side movements, pop times between 2.13 and 2.22 seconds, positional velocity of 69 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Andrew Loeffelman C / OF / SLUH, MO / 2021

Loeffelman is a 6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitting catching and corner infielder in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.50 second 60 yard dash, 4.40 home-to-first and posted a 79 mph exit velocity. During batting practice, Loeffelman starts with a slightly open stance, in line stride, leverages front side during swing, quick hands, hard contact, high finish with hands. Defensively at first base, Loeffelman showed clean transfers, quick arm action, three-quarter arm slot, positional velocity of 69 mph, mostly accurate throws. Behind the plate, he showed a balanced and athletic set up, clean transfers, quick arm action, pop times between 2.09 – 2.21 seconds, positional velocity of 67 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Cameron Loyd C / 3B / Hallsville, MO / 2021

Loyd is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting catching and corner infield prospect in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.44 second 60 yard dash, 4.15 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During batting practice, Loyd showed hard line drives and fly balls to the left side of the field, simple weight shift with his load, level bat path, quick hands, balanced lower half. Defensively in the infield, he showed clean transfers, momentum towards first base, high three-quarter arm slot, positional velocity of 70 mph, accurate throws. Behind the plate, Loyd starts with a narrow stance, high three quarter arm slot, quick arm action, pop times between 2.22 – 2.40 seconds, positional velocity of 71 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Carsen Malan C / 2B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2021

Malan has a small frame, but athletic build at 5-foot-7, 135-pounds and is a right-handed hitting catching prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.59 second 60 yard dash, 4.52 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During batting practice, Malan starts in a slightly open and athletic stance, simple leg lift into his load, loose hands with rhythm, quick bat, level bat path, feel for the barrel, showed some pop to the middle of the field. Defensively behind the plate, Malan showed off his athleticism, quick actions, good side-to-side movements, quiet hands, clean transfers, high three-quarter arm slot, ball showed carry through the target, pop times between 1.95 and 2.15 seconds (quickest recorded at the event), positional velocity of 71 mph, very accurate throws.

Lucas Pringle C / 3B / Mill Valley , KS / 2021

Pringle is a 6-foot, 155-pound, athletic left-handed hitting catching prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.35 second 60 yard dash, 4.70 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. During hitting evaluations, Pringle starts with a slightly opened stance, quiet load, rhythm with his hands, in line stride, smooth and repeatable swing, sprayed hard line drives during batting practice. Behind the plate, Pringle shows his athleticism, good side-to-side actions, quick to block the baseball, clean transfers, longer arm action, fluid footwork, momentum towards second base, pop times between 2.13 and 2.15 seconds, positional velocity of 76 mph, accurate throws.

TJ Racherbaumer C / 3B / Hermann , MO / 2021

Racherbaumer is a solid 5-foot-8, 175-pound left-handed hitting catching prospect in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event he ran 7.75 second 60 yard dash and posted an exit velocity of 76 mph. During hitting evaluations, Racherbaumer starts off with a open stance and finishes slightly closed, rhythm with his hands, aggressive to the baseball, hard contact, high finish with hands. Defensively, Racherbaumer showed his athleticism behind the plate and good actions, quick transfers and arm action, over the top arm slot, moves well side-to-side, pop times between 1.96 and 2.05 seconds at the event, positional velocity of 75 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Jace Wentling C / 1B / Thomas More Prep-Marian, KS / 2022

Wentling is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting catching prospect in Kansas’ 2022 recruiting class. At the event he ran a 7.27 second 60 yard dash, 4.42 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During batting practice, Wentling has a balanced lower half, in line stride, high set up with hands, aggressive to the baseball. Defensively behind the plate, Wentling showed quick high three-quarter arm action, clean transfers, pop times between 2.32 and 2.45 seconds, positional velocity of 63 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Adam Young RHP / C / Olathe South, KS / 2021

Young has a lean build and projectable athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. At the event he ran a 7.26 second 60 yard dash, 4.41 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. During batting practice Young produced mostly line drives and ground balls, balanced set up, mini leg kick into load, easy swing, level bat path, smooth and repeatable swing, gap-to-gap approach. Defensively, Young has an athletic stance, clean transfers, fluid footwork at times, over the top arm slot, pop times between 2.21 and 2.27 second at the event, positional velocity of 66 mph, accurate throws.
