Kansas Preseason All State: Pitchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Kansas Preseason All-State Showcase on February 12 at Hoover Field in Wichita.  Nearly 50 players in the 2018 class from around the region attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. Today, we will finish up the position by position break down, taking a look at the pitchers.  Although some pitchers participated in other positions, this is just a break down of their pitching performance.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Pitchers

Graeson Benefiel, RHP, Mulvane (KS), 2018
Benefiel is a 6-foot-1 190-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Benefiel was 79-83 mph with his fastball, comes from a high three quarters arm slot, simple delivery with slight tuck at balance point, stay in line down the mound, strong lower half, ball comes out of hand cleanly, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, some with depth, 67-68 mph, change up at 66-69 mph, above average arm side release, near fastball arm speed.

Drew Black, RHP, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Black is a 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Black has an up-tempo delivery with an over the top release, repeats well showing command of three pitches, fastball topped at 86 mph, working 83-86 mph, both sides of the plate, some on a downhill plane, breaking ball has gradual 11-to-5 shape, bottom of zone, looks to be a good pitch down the road, change up at 73-75 mph, flashed late arm side run.

Ethan Booe, RHP, Mulvane (KS), 2018
Booe is a 6-foot-1 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Booe showed mound presence and feel for three pitches, controlled delivery, keeps arm high after taking out of glove, over the top release, strike thrower, fastball 83-85 mph, showed a 12-to-6 breaking ball, late action, change up has late sink, 71-72 mph, fastball arm speed. 

Andrew Brautman, RHP, Arkansas City (KS), 2018
Brautman is a 6-foot-1 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Brautman has a quick arm and an strong frame, repeats delivery, loose arm action, high three quarters slot, athletic delivery, accelerates down the mound, throws with some effort, high percentage of strikes with all pitches, fastball at 84-85 mph, slight late run, curveball at 72-77 mph, 11-to-5 action, starts same plane as fastball, late break, change up at 76-76 mph, above average fading action, showed a slider at 76-78 mph, 10-to-4 action, good pitch when down in the zone.

Ben Buchinger, RHP, Liberty (MO), 2018
Buchinger is a 6-foot 197-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Buchinger was 77-79 mph with his fastball, some with downhill tilt, comes from and over the top arm slot, throws with some effort, aggressive down the mound, repeats delivery, works the entire zone with fastball, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, 59-61 mph, change up has slight sink at 64-66 mph.

Connor Hughes, RHP, Olathe North (KS), 2018
Hughes is a 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Hughes has a strong frame with a well-built lower half, over the top release with easy and loose arm action, mostly strikes with his fastball 73-76 mph, some showing arm side run, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape at 58-61 mph, change up 68-69 mph with arm side run.

Alex Jacobs, RHP, Derby (KS), 2018
Jacobs is a 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Jacobs’ fastball was 79-81 mph, comes from an over the top release, slight stab, smooth rhythm in delivery, in line stride down the mound, slider at mostly 68-70 mph, 10-to-4 action, knuckle-curveball has 12-to-6 shape at 73-74 mph, some with sharp break, change up at 70-73 mph, near fastball arm speed.

Noah Johnson, RHP, Derby (KS), 2018
Johnson is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Johnson has an over the top release point, controlled leg lift to release, some deception in stride and tempo, throws with regular effort, fastball at 79-81 mph, breaking ball 63-65 mph, 12-to-6 spin, 64-67 mph change-up, down in zone,

Gage Kennedy, RHP, Maize (KS), 2018
Kennedy is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Kennedy has a high number of strikes with three pitches, over the top arm slot, simple and repeatable delivery, arm works, slender frame suggesting increases as he continues to develop, fastball at 73-75 mph, some with late running action, breaking ball at 68-71 mph, 12-to-6 shape, change up thrown with fastball arm speed, 69-71 mph.

Cody Lucas, RHP, Spring Hill (KS), 2018
Lucas is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Lucas has a strong and durable frame, over the top arm slot, body stay under control during delivery throwing with some effort, throws strikes with fastball at 78-79 mph, showed command with breaking ball, 12-to-6 action, gradual break, change up 64 up, near fastball arm speed.

Zavier Morin, RHP, Gardner-Edgerton (KS), 2018
Morin is a 6-foot-2 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Morin is lean an loose, touching 83 mph with his fastball, working 80-82 mph, high three quarters arm slot, arm works, throws with some effort, simple and repeatable delivery, 12-to-6 breaking ball, gradual spin, down in zone, showed some command of change-up, mostly 74-76 mph, sinking action, near fastball arm speed, frame and arm action would suggest velo increase as he continues to develop.

Beau Rodriguez, RHP, Derby (KS), 2018
Rodriguez is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Rodriguez showed fastball and curveball during pitching evaluations, fastball at 74-76 mph, curveball mostly 63-65 mph, 12-to-6 action on curveball, over the top release, deliberate leg lift in delivery, body under control. 

Noah Sisemore, RHP, Maize, (KS), 2018
Sisemore is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Sisemore has a projectable pitchers frame with lean frame and easy arm action, has feel for the zone with three pitches, repeats delivery, high three quarters release, fastball at 80-83 mph, some with late run, 11-to-5 shape on curveball, 67-72 mph, starts on a fastball plane, change up at 64-67 mph, some with late arm side release.

Blayten Tullis, RHP, Derby (KS), 2018
Tullis is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Tullis has a slender frame with arm that works, over the top release, in line down the mound, fastball at 76-78 mph, breaking ball at 60-63 mph, 12-to-6 action, gradual break, showed command of zone with both pitches, repeats delivery. 

Treven Veltman, RHP, Wichita West (KS), 2018
Veltman is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Veltman comes from an over the top release, controlled delivery throwing with some effort, in line down the mound, fastball at 79-80 mph, sharp 11-to-5 breaking ball, down in the zone, late action, change up at 67-68 mph, near fastball arm speed. 

Jack Wagner, RHP, Miaze South (KS), 2018
Wagner is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Wagner has a controlled delivery and clean arm action, throws a high number of strikes, fastball works 80-82 mph, some with arm side run, curveball has 11-to-5 action, 70-72 mph, has depth, change up at 72-75 mph, near fastball arm speed, flashing arm side run.
