Kansas Underclass Games: Catcher's Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the Kansas Underclass Games at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas on Tuesday, June 5.  Over seventy players attended in the 2020-2021 class. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catcher from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

This group of catchers included six exit velos of 87 mph or better, three hitters had a 90 mph or better exit velocity.  Four catchers had a 2.00 or better pop time, and four had a 75 mph or better positional velocity.  Here is a break down of the catchers from the Kansas Underclass Games.


Catchers

Daniel Bebee C / SS / Shawnee Mission South, KS / 2020

Bebee is an athleitc 6-foot-2 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.32 60, a 4.78 home to first and has an exit velocity of 87 mph. At the plate, consistent hard contact gap to gap during hitting evals, thin set up, slightly open, level and quick bat speed, some hand load, repeats swing, doubled and singled in game action.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.00 and 2.11-seconds, 75 mph positional velocity, wide set up, quick exchange with high three quarters arm slot, accurate throws.

Mack Clark SS / C / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Clark is a strong 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.40 60, a 4.90 home to first and has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin set up, smooth load with short stride, loose and quick hands, feel for the barrell, stays on ball after contact, tripled and singled in game action.  Behind the plate, pop times between 1.95 and 2.13, 76 mph positonal velcoity, short over the top arm action, exchange on time with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Jake Dolesh C / OF / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020

Dolesh is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.63 60, a 4.75 home to first and has an exit velocity of 91 mph. At the plate, balaned stanced, fluid rhythm in load, toe tap, solid consistent line drives gap to gap during hitting evals, level swing plane, no wasted movement, flashing pull side power.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.10 and 2.23 seconds, 72 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick and clean exchange, short jab set in feet on time with transfer, mostly accurate throws.

Dylan Dwyer C / 2B / Olathe West, KS / 2020

Dwyer is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.75 60, a 4.91 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balaned set up, smooth load in lower half with no wasted movement in hands, short stride, mostly opposite field line drives during hitting evals, hands work inside the ball, stays under control throughout swing.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.13 and 2.30 seconds, 67 mph positional velocity, thin set up in base, over the top release with clean and quick transfer, throws are online to the bag, some with carry.

Mikolas Honomichl C / 2B / De Soto, KS / 2021

Honomichl is a 5-foot-10 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.70 60, a 4.72 home to first and has a 75 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, wide base in set up, toe tap to stride with hand load, swing produced mostly pull side contact during batting evaluations.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.38 and 2.45-seconds, 64 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, fluid glove to hand exchange, feet create slight momentum to throw, throws are online to the bag at 2nd base, somewhat accurate.

Chuck Ingram C / OF / Rockhurst, MO / 2020

Ingram is a well built 6-foot 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He Rana 7.21 60, a 4.56 home to first and has a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift, in line stride, aggressive swing, mostly pull side contact with power, will use opposite gap, feel for the barrel with loud contact. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.05 and 2.24-seconds, 77 mph positional velocity, wide set up, over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, quick and athletic feet, mostly accurate throws, some with carry to the bag.

Tysaac Noland C / 2B / Maize South, KS / 2020

Noland is a 5-foot-11 150-pound switch-hitting catcher in Kansas 2020 class.  He ran a 7.50 60, a 4.88 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, short in line stride, hands separate from stride, gap to gap approach with level swing plane.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.07 and 2.15-seconds, high three quarters arms slot, staggered set up in feet, fluid exchange on time with momentum in footwork, mostly accurat throws, some with carry to the bag

Andrew Pendergast C / RHP / Blue Valley West, KS / 2020

Pendergast is a strong 6-foot 205-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.76 60, at 5.05 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, some hand load with an in line stride, feel for the barrell with slight lift to swing swing path, pull side power and contact during hitting evals.  Behind the plate, pop times at 2.02 to 2.22-secnds, 69 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer from glove to hand, clean footwork, mostly accurate throws with some carry to the bag.

Eli Schnee C / 3B / Clay Center, KS / 2020

Schnee is a 5-foot-10 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.59 60, a 4.69 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin and open stance, controlled leg kick, hands work inside ball, middle to opposite field line drives, Behind the plate, pop times between 2.15 and 2.29-seconds, 69 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer, slight momentum created in footwork, throws are mostly accurate, some with carry.

Clay Saporito RHP / C / Columbus, KS / 2020

Saporito is a long and lean 6-foot-2 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.45 60, a 4.72 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, little hand hand load, quick tempo leg lift with in line stride, mostly middle to pull side contact during hitting evals, level swing plane with slight lift to finish.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.20 and 2.33-seconds, 68 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, long arm circle, quick footwork creates momentum to throw, somewhat accurate throws with carry to the bag.

Aidan Thompson C / 3B / Olathe North, KS / 2020

Thompson is a physical 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.50 60, a 4.94 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a tall and open stance, toe tap to short in line stride, quick and aggressive bat speed, pull side power with fast bat speed, level path, hits with leverage in back side.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.02 and 2.14-seconds, 72 mph positional velcoity, over the top arm slot, quick exchange on time with footwork, accurate throws to the bag, player to keep an eye as he continues to develop.

Auggie Viles C / 2B / Rockhurst, MO / 2021

Viles is a 5-foot-11 180-pound switch hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 8.00 60 and a 4.93 home to first from the left side, he has a 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate from the left side, balaned set up, short stride with efficient movments, slight ligt to path at finish, similar mechanics from right side, with short and simple swing, more level path from right side, feel for the barrell from both sides with gap to gap approach, consistent solid contact, stays balanced.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.00 and 2.20-seconds, 69 mph positonal velocity, wide base in set up, over the top release, aggressive and quick feet with momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Ivan Witt C / Fort Scott , KS / 2021

Witt is an athletic 5-foot-11 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.76 60, a 4.75 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, repeatable swing with little wasted movment, starts in balanced position, controlled leg kick, in line strdie, level path with loose hands, gap to gap approach with consistent line drives in hitting evals.  Behind the plate, pop times between 1.88 to 2.10 pop times, 70 mph positional velcoity, over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, advanced for age, accurate with throws, carry to the bag, quick transfer, player to watch in the 2021 class.

Adam Young C / RHP / Olathe South, KS / 2021

Young is a 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.30 60 and a 4.56 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity.   At the plate, balanced stance, reverse to tap, in line stride, level swing path, middle of the field line drives during hitting evals. Behind the plate, 2.16 to 2.28-second pop times, 70 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive feet creaeing momentum to throw, clean exchange, throws are mostly accurate with some carry.
