Kansas Underclass Games: Outfield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Kansas Underclass Games on June 4 at the in Wichita, Kansas.  Over 70 players from the region attended in the 2022 and 2021 class.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.

Here is a closer look at the outfielders from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

Outfielders

Scott Adams OF / Maize High School, KS / 2021 Adams is an athletic and physical 5-foot-11, 185-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.30 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. During batting practice, Adams starts in an athletic stance, simple load, some rhythm with hands, flat bat path, remains balanced throughout swing, showed pop to left field during round. In the outfield, Adams has good actions, fluid footwork, long arm with carry to the baseball, high three-quarter release, accurate throws, positional velo of 81 mph.

Dayne Aschenbrenner OF / C / Manhattan, KS / 2021 Aschenbrenner is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound switch hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.02 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph from the left side and 86 mph from the right side. During batting practice, starts open from the left side, in line stride, flat bat path, showed an inside out approach during round, from the right side showed more strength with pull side power. Defensively Aschenbrenner has athletic actions in the outfield, aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, strong arm with some carry, positional velo of 79 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Wyatt Barney RHP / OF / Desoto , KS / 2021 Barney has long limbs and large frame at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds and is left-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.51 second 60 and a 4.38 second home-to-first. During batting practice, slight across the body stride, leverages front side, quiet load, feel for the barrel, inside out approach during round. In the outfield, works behind the baseball, clean transfers, momentum towards target, three-quarter release, positional velo of 79 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Chase Carson LHP / 1B / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2021 Carson is a 6-foot-1 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2021 class. He ran an 8.09 60, a 5.38 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, slight hand load, level path through the zone, middle to pull line drives during hitting evals.  In the outfield, 85 mph positonal velocity, aggressive to the ball, momentum through the catch with clean transfers, mostly accurate.

Joshua Darrenkamp OF / LHP / Maize South , KS / 2022 Darrenkamp has an athletic build at 5-foot-7, 135 pounds, while being a right-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.53 60 and 4.53 home-to-first. During batting practice, upright stance, quiet load with some rhythm to his hands, in line and short stride, remains balanced throughout swing, showed contact to all fields during round. Defensively in the outfield, attacks the baseball, momentum towards target, fluid footwork, long arm with a high three-quarter release, positional velo of 73 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Tristen Everard OF / 2B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021 Everard has a lean frame with long limbs at 6-foot, 150 pounds. He is a right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.10 second 60 and a 4.24 home-to-first. During hitting evaluations, Everard starts with an open stance, small leg lift into his load, in line stride, loose hands, controls the barrel, minimal head movement, showed a middle approach during round, posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. In the outfield, attacks the baseball, fluid footwork, clean transfers, long arm action with a high three-quarter release, positional velo of 82 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Eli Fahnestock OF / RHP / Andover, KS / 2021 Fahnestock is a strong and physical 6-foot-1, 195-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.03 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 81 mph. At the plate, Fahnestock starts in an athletic stance, quiet load, in line stride, mostly level bat path, remains balanced throughout swing, showed line drive contact to left field during round. Defensively, tracks the baseball well in the outfield, clean transfers, longer arm action, high three-quarter slot, positional velo of 76 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Matthew Hornbeck OF / OF / St. James Academy, KS / 2021 Hornbeck is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound, left-handed hitting outfield prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. Horbeck has a medium sized frame with long limbs. At the plate, balanced set up, shorter leg lift, in line stride, leverages front side, quiet hands, level bat path, showed contact to all fields during round. Defensively, Hornbeck is aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, clean arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 71 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Joseph Lopez C / OF / Bishop Miege, KS / 2021 Lopez has a slender build at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds. He is a left-handed hitting catcher and outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.22 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. During hitting evaluations, simple load, in line stride, minimal head movement, flat bat path, gap-to-gap approach during round. In the outfield, Lopez attacks the baseball, shows clean transfers, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 74 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Jackson Miller RHP / OF / De Soto , KS / 2021 Miller has an athletic build at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds and is a right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 6.80 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. During hitting evaluations, Miller starts in a relaxed and upright stance, reverse toe-tap into his load, loose hands, easy swing, works to get arms extended, showed middle approach during round. Jared Neel OF / RHP / Bishop Meige, KS / 2021 Neel is a big bodied and physical 6-foot-2, 215-pound, right-handed hitting outfield prospect and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.69 second 60 and a 5.09 home-to-first. During hitting evaluations, Neel starts in a relaxed stance, in line stride, lightning quick hands, minimal head movement, showed pull pop during round, exit velocity of 87 mph. Defensively in the outfield, works behind the baseball, clean transfers, momentum towards target, long arm action with a high three-quarter release, positional velo of 81 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Aaron Noll OF / RHP / Maur Hill Mount Academy, KS / 2021 Noll is a 5-foot-9, 135-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.35 second 60 and posted and exit velocity of 81 mph. During batting practice, Noll starts in balanced stance, simple load, in line stride, quiet hands, level bat path, remains balanced throughout, showed contact to all fields during round. Joe Patton C / 3B / St. Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2021 Patton shows a slender frame with long limbs at 6-foot, 150 pounds. He is a left-handed hitting catcher and outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the plate, Patton leverages up his front side, reverse toe tap into load, in line stride, loose hands, flat bath, exit velocity of 84 mph. Cade Perkins LHP / OF / Manhattan , KS / 2022 Perkins has a bigger frame at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds and is a left-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.47 second 60 yard dash. During hitting evaluations, Perkins starts in an upright stance, simple load, across the body stride, quick hands, minimal head movement, showed gap-to-gap contact during round, posted an exit velocity of 81 mph. Defensively in the outfield, works behind the baseball, clean transfers, momentum towards target, three-quarter release, strong arm with carry, positional velo of 76 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Drew Powers OF / LHP / Mill Valley High School, KS / 2021 Powers has a stocky build at 5-foot-9, 180-pounds and is a left-handed hitting outfield and left handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran 7.44 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. During hitting evaluations, Powers starts in a relaxed stance, shorter stride slightly across body, loose hands, level bat path, showed the ability to work inside the baseball, gap-to-gap approach during round. Defensively, showed good actions in the outfield, momentum towards target, long and clean arm action, high three-quarter release, some carry to the baseball, positional velo of 78 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Seth Reichenberger RHP / OF / Andale , KS / 2022 Reichenberger has large and projectable frame at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds. He is a right-handed hitting outfield prospect and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2022 recruiting class. He ran a 7.15 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. During batting practice, starts slightly open, loose hands, simple load, little wasted movement, in line stride, level bat path, showed some pop to left field during round. Defensively, moves well for his size, clean transfers, strong arm with some carry, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 76 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Owen Reynolds OF / LHP / Eisenhower, KS / 2021 Reynolds has a projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 145 pounds and is a left-handed hitting outfield prospect and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.28 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 86 mph. During batting practice, Reynolds starts in an athletic stance, short and in line stride, loose hands, controls the barrel, flat bat path, showed the ability to work inside the baseball, produced hard line drive contact to left-center to center field during round. Defensively, smooth actions, fluid foot work, longer arm action, strong arm with some carry, positional velo of 85 mph, accurate throws.

Luke Shull OF / LHP / Bishop Miege, KS / 2021 Shull is a lanky and athletic 6-foot, 160-pound, right-handed hitting outfield prospect and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 recruiting class. At the event, 7.62 second 60, and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. During batting practice, Shull starts in a balanced stance, simple load, quiet hands, longer and in line stride, level bat path, showed a good round in bp with hard line drive contact in the middle of the field. Defensively, good actions in the outfield, long and loose arm action, three-quarter release, strong arm with carry, positional velo of 81 mph, accurate throws.

Isaiah Walker OF / OF / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2021 Walker is an athletic 5-foot-7 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2021 class.  He ran a 6.95 60 and was clocked at 3.86 down the line home to first, he has an 83 mph positional velocity.  In the outfield, he posted a 70 mph positional velocity, quick transfer and throw, moves through the ball with quick feet and clean exchanges. At the plate, open stance, quick bat speed, line drives gap to gap with solid contact, hand control the barrel, stays under control.

Kaden Walsh RHP / 3B / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2021 Walsh is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2021 class.  He ran a 7.29 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, toe tap to in line stride, middle of the field line drives, high finish in hands, stays balanced.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, gains momentum after the catch, clean transfer and throw, mostly accurate throws, 81 mph positional velocity.

Gavin Williams OF / 3B / De Soto, KS / 2021 Williams is a strong and athletic 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 6.94 second 60, which was the second highest at the event, and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. During hitting evaluations, Williams starts in an athletic stance, leg lift into load position, shorter and in line stride, showed feel for the barrel, quick hands, flat bat path, hard pull side contact during round, during game action he hit a homerun to left center field. Defensively, Williams shows smooth actions in the outfield, fluid footwork, clean transfers, strong arm with carry to the baseball, over the top release, positional velo of 83 mph, mostly accurate throws.
