MOKAN Summer Trials: Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report- Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Summer Trials on July 16 at LaRoche Baseball Complex in Fort Scott, Kansas. Over thirty five players in the 2024-2020 classes attended.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the catchers from the event, listed in alphabetical order

Catchers

Brantley Carter C / 3B / Webb City , MO / 2022

Carter is a 5-foot-7 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2022 class.  He ran a 7.64 60 and a 5.52 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, hands load with stride, loose hands with level swing plane, gap to gap line drives, repeats swing.  Behind the plate, thin set up, sits low, over the top arm slot, fluid transfer with quick feet, throws have accuracy, some with carry, pop times between 2.09 and 2.32-seconds, 72 mph positional velocity.

Cole Chace C / SS / Blue Springs South, MO / 2023

Chace is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2023 class.  He ran a 7.88 60 and a 4.37 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in open stance, athletic position, loads with lower half, hands walk way from stride, stays balanced, hands work inside the ball, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, balanced set up, smooth exchange and throw, short over the top arm slot, fluid footwork, accurate throws with carry, smooth actions, 2.00 and 2.28 seconds, 73 mph positional velocity.

Alex Dilley C / 3B / Olathe West, KS / 2020

Dilley is a 6-foot-2 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas 2020 class.  He ran a 7.58 60 and a 5.14 home to first.  He had a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled leg lift, hands separate from stride, smooth swing with accelerated hands, slight lift to bat path at finish, middle to pull side line drives.  Behind the plate, over the top arm slot, sits low with shoulder-width base, replaces feet on time with exchange, mostly accurate throws, 77 mph positional velocity, 2.02 to 2.16 pop times.

Alex Johnson C / OF / Frontenac , KS / 2020

Johnson is a strong and athletically built 5-foot-10 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 6.89 60 and a 4.70 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, some hand load with pre pitch rhythm, body stays under control, level path, gap to gap approach, repeatable swing.  Behind the plate, high three quarters arm slot, slightly staggered set up, clean transfer, feet create momentum to throw after the catch, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.01 and 2.30, 75 mph positional velocity.

Colin Johnson C / OF / Maize South, KS / 2022

Johnson is a 5-foot-9 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class.  He ran a 7.34 60 and a 4.84 home to first.  He has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide base, slightly open, smooth load to back side, level path, middle to pull side line drives.  Behind the plate, wide and even base, clean exchange on time with footwork, over the top release, short arm circle, pop times between 2.17 and 2.19, 75 mph positional velocity.

Cody Moore C / 1B / Mill Valley , KS / 2022

Moore is a 5-foot-10 178-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and a 4.89 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and thin set up, minimal load, attacks ball with in line stride, level through the zone, gap to gap contact, flashes pull side power.  Behind the plate, 74 mph positional velocity, 1.98 to 2.19 pop times, slightly staggered in set up, aggressive footwork, replaces feet with momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws with carry. 

Quinn Price RHP / C / Mount Vernon, MO / 2020

Price is a 6-foot-3 215-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.83 60 and a 5.09 home to first.  He has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a tall stance with high hands, loads with hands, minimal weight shift, early in line stride, loose hands with middle to pull side line drives, slight lift to bat path.  Behind the plate, over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, clean transfer with replace feet, mostly accurate throws, 71 mph positional velocity, 2.03 to 2.13 pop times.

Keaton Scott C / SS / Hannibal , MO / 2022

Scott is a 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2022 class.  He ran a 7.49 home to first and a 4.50 60.  He has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, controlled leg lift, in line stride, accelerated hands, flat swing plane resulting in gap to gap lines drives.  Behind the plate, short over the top arm slot, staggered set up in base, quick transfer, replaces feet, throws with momentum from footwork, accurate thrower, most throws with carry, 2.01 to 2.13 pop times, 71 mph positional velocity.

Gavin Siegfried C / Staley , MO / 2022

Siegfried is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.48 60 and a 4.60 home to first.  He has an 85 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, thin set up, slightly open, loads against back side with weight shift, hands walk away from stride, level path through extension, has feel for the barrel, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, starts in a balanced position then switches staggered position at pitchers release, thin base, aggressive and quick catch and throw, over the top a release, footwork and exchange in sync, mostly accurate throws, 2.05 to 2.21 pop times, 72 mph positional velocity.

Quin Smith C / Rockhurst, MO / 2021

Smith is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.57 60 and a 5.16 home to first.  He has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up with rhythm in hands, rocks to back side with weight shift, toe tap to in line stride, level path through the zone, swing produced gap to gap line drives during batting practice.  Behind the plate, short over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, feet on time with transfer, creates momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.09 and 2.19-seconds, 72 mph positional velocity.

Deacon Zordel C / 1B / Silver Lake, KS / 2021

Zordel is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.34 60 and a 4.84 home to first.  He had an 81 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, pre pitch rhythm in hands, to tap to in stride, level path through zone, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, over the top arm slot, even set up, clean transfer with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, some with carry, 75 mph positional velocity, pop times between 2.07 and 2.25-seconds.
