Player Spotlight: Cole Larsen (Concordia, 2017)

Cole Larsen (Concordia, 2017) is a 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop and right-handed pitcher.

At the Kansas Class of 2016 Games, Larsen was up to 85 mph with is fastball with arm side run. Breaking ball with 11/5 shape, sharp at times, could develop into a plus pitch, 74-75 mph He is an athletic, projectable right-hander with room to fill out physically. 

Larsen ran a 7.50 60 and has an exit velo of 86 mph.  He has a balanced stance and in line stride, swing produced line drives to middle and pull gap. He posted an 86 mph positional velo from the outfield, with a loose over the top arm action. 

Larson plays for the Midwest Stix during the summer and is currently scheduling visits for the fall.  Here is a look inside the recruiting process for Cole Larsen.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Larsen: I plan on going to Eastern Illinois and Cowley this fall, and still waiting to find a date to get on campus for the other two schools.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Larsen: I am looking for a school with a good, proud baseball program, and also a place with good academics, where I can get a quality education.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Larsen: I feel that I had a solid junior year. I had a 0.81 ERA, 82 Strikouts, in 52 innings. I also received 1st team all-state honors for the second year in a row. We lost in the regional championship to Rock Creek, but had a good year overall. Key players next year will be Juniors Billy Bechard and Brent Beaumont, and Seniors Mathew James and Ian Nordell.

PBR: What are you goals for your junior season?

Larsen: My number one goal for my senior season is to win a state championship. As far as individual goals I would like to keep an ERA under 0.25 and go undefeated.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Larsen: I play for the Midwest Stix during the summer as well as the fall.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Larsen:  In addition to baseball, I play football during the fall.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Larsen: I currently have a 3.75 GPA and a 23 on the ACT.
