Player Spotlight: LHP/OF Andrew Halverson (Gardner-Edgerton, 2016)

Andrew Halverson (Gardner-Edgerton, 2016) is a 5-foot-11 185-pound left-handed pitcher and left-handed hitting outfielder. Halverson recently played for the Midwest Regional USA team in Cary, North Carolina after attending the Class of 2016 Games in Emporia on Aug. 5. 

Halverson, bats left and has a tall set-up. He shifts weight back with load and mini leg kick.  He has loose hands, level path out front, with bat speed through extension. His exit velocity is 90 mph and recorded a 3.84 home-to-first time for the Midwest Regional team, and was also clocked at a 6.61 60. In the outfield he attacks the ball, has clean exchanges, and a high three-quarters arm action.  He has a positional velo of 81 mph with an accurate arm. On the mound under control from pivot to tall balance point, tucks at balance, three-quarters arm action. Showed running fastball and a glove side fastball with cut, 80-81 mph, topped out at 82. Slider at 72-74 mph. Fastball arm speed on 78-79 mph change-up.

Here is a look inside the recruiting process for Andrew Halverson.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Halverson: I am looking for a school high on academics with a good pre-med or physical therapy program.

PBR: How did you do your sophomore year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will play a key role for your team in 2016.

Halverson: I missed my sophomore year of baseball due to a serious car accident.  Fortunately, I made a 100% recovery from the accident; however, I spent the past year getting back into baseball condition.  I am now back to the shape I was in prior to the accident and continue to get stronger and faster.

This summer I had a .463 batting average with an .841 slugging percentage.  I also had an on base percentage of .516 with 23 stolen bases.  My OPS for the summer was 1.357.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Halverson: My goals for my senior season are to hit with a .400 batting average, run a 60 yd in 6.4, have an outfield velocity of 90, a 96+exit velocity and continue to develop as a left handed pitcher.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Halverson: I play for Next Level Baseball Academy.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Halverson: I was a dual sport athlete through my sophomore year.  I played both football and baseball.  After the car accident, I turned my focus to baseball.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Halverson: I am currently ranked 5th in my class with a 4.33 GPA and an ACT score of 29.
