Shon Plack
Kansas Scouting Director

Matt Drummond (SM Northwest, 2016) is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, and recently attended the Class of 2016 Games in Emporia on August 5.

He runs a 6.84 60 and has an 85 mph positional velo from the outfield. Defensively, he throws from an over-the-top arm slot, with accuratey and carry.  Drummond displays quick fluid feet and a quick clean exchange, working behind the ball and gaining momentum through the catch.  At the plate, Drummond has an athletic setup with a smooth load and a repeatable swing. He shows fluid rhythm and a level bat path producing line drives gap-to-gap.

Drummond helped lead the Cougars to a second place finish in the 6A state tournament and 19-6 record. Last summer and this fall he will be playing for Building Champions.

Here is a look inside the recruiting process for Matt Drummond.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Drummond: My plan is to go 2-3 hours away, but if I like a school I wouldn't eliminate the possibilities of long travels.  High academics are important to me, and the coaches are important.  I feel if I'm going to play for a school for a number of years the coaches must be nice, smart

and have confidence in my abilities.

PBR: How did you do your sophomore year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will play a key role for your team in 2016.

Drummond: Last year on varsity I struggled at the plate.  We weren't given stats at end of year. We finished 2nd in 6A state losing to Free State and went 19-6.  Some key players for us next year are going to be Jared Marolf, Garrett Stephens, Dylan Dirks, and Zach Reeder.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Drummond: We obviously want to win state.  Coming up short last year showed us just what it will take and we have a lot of players with the same mind set so I'm confident we will surprise people.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Drummond: For both summer and fall ball I play for Building Champions.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Drummond: No

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Drummond: I have a 3.6 GPA and a 26 ACT.
