Player Spotlight: OF Ross Cappo (Blue Valley West, 2016)

Shon Plack
Kansas Scouting Director

Here is a look inside the recruitment of Ross Cappo.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Cappo: I’m interested in playing at a Division I school that has a quality Business School offering a degree in Accounting.  I love to play and I just want the opportunity to compete and play at the next level.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will have an impact on the 2016 season.

Cappo: I had great junior season playing on the Varsity team at Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park, Kansas.  My batting average was 311 and I hit 571 with runners in scoring position.  I was second on the team in RBI’s with 13 and I hit the team’s only home run and it was a Grand Slam in an 8-3 with over Blue Valley Northwest.

We finished our 2015 season 18-7 and earned 3rd place in 5A State playoffs beating Aquinas twice in the regular season and again in Districts to go to the State Playoffs.

Returning players for the 2016 season who will make an impact are Nathan Wiles, Alex Ronnebaum and Mark Collins.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Cappo: I want to start the season off strong and help lead the team to the State Tournament in 2016.   Falling one game short of the Championship has given me motivation for the upcoming season.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Cappo: I play for Mac n Seitz Hobbs 18U in the summer and I did not play fall ball due to my High School football commitments.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Cappo: I am a three year letterman on the Varsity and the starting safety this season.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Cappo: I received a  25 on the ACT, and have a GPA of 3.65
