Tyler Halstead (Riley County, 2018) is a 6-foot 175 left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas 2018 class.  He recently attended the Class of 2018 Games in Topeka.

There he ran a 6.61 60, and a 3.96 home to first. He has an 80 mph positional velo from the outfield with athletic footwork and a clean exchange. 

Last spring he was selected as a First-Team All-State outfielder in Kansas 3A. He is currently gearing up for the ProCase workout next month in the Chicago area. 

Here is a look inside the recruitment of Tyler Halstead.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Halstead: I am looking for the right fit for me both academically and with the baseball program.  I would like to become a Physician Assistant which requires a master’s degree.   The only Kansas school with this degree is Wichita State.  Because it’s a master’s program I’ll have wide flexibility to pursue my associate or bachelor’s degree at a variety of colleges.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Halstead: I had a successful junior season at Riley County HS.  I was selected 3A All State First Team Outfielder.   Riley County went 15-8 and was second in the Mid-East League.  We ended our season with a loss in the finals of our regional tournament. Had a 4.93 batting average, a OBP of .563, .747 slugging percentage, 29 RBI, scored 30 runs and hit two home runs.  On the mound I had 35 strikeouts and a 1.18 ERA in 29.2 innings. 

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Halstead: I want to enjoy my final year playing for the Riley county Falcons.  Several of us Seniors have been playing traveling baseball together for many years.  We have some great underclassman coming up and I am expecting a successful Senior season.  My team goals are to win a regional championship and help Riley County make a deep run in the 3A state playoffs.  For personal goals, I want to play at a level that will earn my third year of All State Honors and allow me to be considered for 3A Player of the Year.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Halstead: I play with the Midwest Stix under coach’s Shane Sieben and Drew Biery. I will be playing football in the fall.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Halstead: In past years I have played football and basketball.
I will be playing football this fall for Riley County and have earned All-League honors the past two years.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Halstead: I have a 3.97 accumulative GPA through my junior year. Current ACT composite is 25
