Player Spotlight: OF/RHP Tanner Padgett (Wichita Heights, 2016)

Tanner Padgett (Wichita Heights, 2016) is a physical 6-foot-5, 210-pound right-hand hitting first baseman and right-handed pitcher. At the plate, he Balanced set-up at the plate, smooth hand load, and simple stride.  He delivers the barrel with authority and hits with leverage. He has an exit velo of 96 mph and runs a 6.91 60.

At first base, Padgett moves well for such a physical player, fielded the ball cleanly,  has a high three-quarters throwing motion,  and makes mostly accurate throws at 82 mph. 

On the mound, he pitches from the stretch exclusively, with avery simple and repeatable delivery. Padgett has a three-quarters slot and a fastball with late life, at 84-85 mph.  He has a short breaking ball with 11/5 to 12/6 shape at 72-76 mph and command of 75-78 mph sinking change-up.

Below is a look inside the recruiting process for Tanner Padgett.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Padgett: I am looking at schools with majors/degrees in engineering.

PBR: How did you do your sophomore year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will play a key role for your team in 2016.

Padgett: I had a good sophomore season in the field and at the plate. In 17 games and 49 AB I lead the team with a .490 BA, .552 OBP, and .612 SLG. I had 24 hits, with 17 RBI's. We finished 9-11. I moved over the summer so I am  transferring to Wichita Heights. And our key players will be Tremaine Simpson, Creighton Sanders, and me. All seniors.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Padgett: To finish 1st in league, host a regional, and go to State.  

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Padgett: I played for Wichita Reds Black- Lienhard this summer but with the Wichita Reds closing down, I am moving over with my current coach Steve Lienhard, to 316 Elite for fall and summer ball, as of right now.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Padgett: I play Basketball and participate in weight lifting/cross fit challenges.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Padgett: 24 on the Act. And have a 3.95 unweighted GPA, but when it becomes weighted I'll have a 4.0 or higher.
