Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the Preseason All-State Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball on Sunday, February 21.  Nearly 75 players in the 2017 class attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with video, profile pitcher, times and velocities.  Click on each player to see their profile. 

We will break down each position from the event, taking a look at the corner infielders today.  Although some players played multiple positions, this is just a review of their corner infield performance.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Corner Infielders

Logan Auch, 3B, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2017
Auch is a 6-foot-2 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley Southwest HS. He ran a 4.52 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, short and quick stride, slightly closed, quick bat speed, level through contact, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork, gains ground toward 1st base, clean exchange.

Adam Carlson, 3B, Baldwin (KS), 2017
Carlson is a 6-foot 166-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Balwin HS.  He ran a 4.03 home to first and has an exit velo of 77 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, in-line stride, hands drop a bit in load, contact to middle/pull side of cage during batting practice.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, plays through the ball, quick catch and throw.

Ryan Davis, 3B, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2017
Davis is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley Southwest HS.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has an exit velo of 75 mph. At the plate, thin base in set up, short stride, some hand load, middle to oppo contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, fields ball in athletic position, fluid glove to hand transfer.

Brandon Eickhorst, 3B, Harrisonville (MO), 2017
Eickhorst is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2017 class from Harrisonville HS.  He ran a 4.39 home to first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach, level path though the zone, high finish with hands, smooth rhythm, strong and quick hands.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, over the top release, arm works, footwork gets him in good position to catch and throw, fluid transfer.  

Ryan Ferger, 3B, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2017
Ferger is a 6-foot-1 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley Northwest HS. He ran a 4.09 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 92 mph. At the plate, starts in wide stance, controlled leg kick, creates linear load and power into contact, showed pop to pull side with middle to pull approach. On the infield, 86 mph positional velo, short over the top arm slot, gains ground towards first base with footwork, fluid glove to hand exchange, hands and feet in sync.

Cameron Fritz, 1B, Shawnee Mission East (KS), 2017
Fritz is a 6-foot-6 205-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Shawnee Mission East HS.  He ran a 4.51 home to first and has an exit velo of 91 mph. At the plate, starts in a balanced position, slightly open, short in-line stride, level path through hitting zone, quick hands, swing creates line drives to the middle and pull side of cage.  On the infield, three quarters release, 67 mph positional velo, showed the ability to start double plays, attacks ball with fluid footwork and clean exchange.

Daniel Hegarty, 1B, Blue Valley (KS), 2017
Hegarty is a 6-foot 180-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley HS.  He ran a 4.53 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, loads with linear move in back leg, no hand movement, short stride, aggressive and quick hands, used the middle of cage during batting practice showing some power.  On the infield, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw to start double play, soft hands, 57 mph positional velo.

Max Hewlett, 1B, Rockhurst (MO), 2017
Hewlett is a 6-foot-1 200-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class from Rockhurst HS.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, thin and open stance, in-line stride with controlled leg kick, aggressive hands, quick bat speed, showed power to pull side, hands work inside ball staying on ball after contact.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo at 1B, aggressive to ball, quick catch and throw, hands and feet work together, high three quarters release.

Bayler Hinz, 1B, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2017
Hinz is a 6-foot-3 210-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from St. Thomas Aquinas HS.  He ran a 4.71 home to first and has an exit velo of 96 mph. At the plate, showed power during batting practice using the middle to pull side of cage, takes an aggressive swing, smooth linear load, open to square stride, level path though hitting zone, stays on ball after contact.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo at 1B, athletic footwork, getting ball quickly, high three quarters release, loose arm action, momentum towards target to throw.

Brett Ingram, 3B, Blue Valley (KS), 2017
Ingram is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley HS.  He ran a 4.71 home to first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load with little hand movement, inline stride, level path to extension, swing produced line drives to the middle/pull side of cage.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, three quarters release, quick catch and throw, fields ball in athletic position with fluid footwork and transfer.

Carson Lujin, 1B, Blue Valley West (KS), 2017
Lujin is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley West HS.  He ran a 4.56 home to first and has an exit velo of 79 mph. At the plate, has a gap-to-gap approach, showed the ability to go the other way, athletic set up, in line stride, hands work inside of ball.  On the infield, aggressive to the ball, loose arm action, three quarters release, athletic footwork with quick catch and throw, 61 mph positional velo.

Tanner Olmstead, 3B, Derby (KS), 2017
Olmstead is a 6-foot 205-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Derby HS.  He ran a 4.45 home to first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, thin stance with hands walking away from stride, quick bat speed, swing produced line drives to middle of cage during batting practice.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick transfer and throw.

Derek Ripp, 1B, St. James Academy (KS), 2017
Ripp is a 6-foot-6 215-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from St. James Academy HS.  He ran a 4.19 home to first and has an exit velo of 94 mph. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift to in-line stride, quick and loose hands create bat whip, consistent hard contact to pull side with power during batting practice.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo at 1B, soft hands, athletic footwork, over the top release with momentum towards target.

Adam White, 1B, Bishop Miege (KS), 2017
White is a 6-foot-2 172-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Bishop Miege HS.  He ran a 4.47 home to first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, hands separate from stride foot, free and loose hands, level path through zone, stays on ball, gap-to-gap approach with power to pull gap.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, loose high three quarters arm action, athletic footwork, hands and feet are in sync, plays through catch. 

Nick Wohler, 1B, Manhattan (KS), 2017
Wohler is a 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, thin and open stance, aggressive swing, hard consistent contact during batting practice, gap-to-gap.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, works behind the ball, fields in athletic positon, quick catch and release with momentum through catch.
