2015 RHP Logan Mallory (North Laurel HS) Shows Big Velocity Jump at Top Prospect Games

Each time we had seen Logan Mallory on the mound over the past year, his velocity was virtually the same.  At all of the previous events he had attended, the 6-foot-3, 198-pound RHP/1B (2015, North Laurel HS) showed a fastball in the 82-84 mph range that touched 85 on occasion.  Those events included a two-inning stint last summer as a member of Team Kentucky at the Midwest Future Games in which he didn’t allow a hit.

Given that Mallory’s arm works well coupled with his projectable frame, I’ve been expecting to see velocity gains from the rising senior.  That additional velocity showed up on Tuesday at the Top Prospect Games at Western Kentucky University.

Mallory’s first fastball of the day touched 89 mph, and after that he proceeded to sit in the 85-88 mph range.  He also flashed good command of a late-breaking 73-74 mph breaking ball which he used in conjunction with his fastball to strikeout two of the five batters he faced.

Mallory’s day didn’t end on the mound.  As a position player, he tied for the top tee exit velocity of the event at 91 mph, tied for the top Infield velocity at 84 mph from his first base position, and went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in game action.

At 6-foot-3 and with a fastball now reaching into the upper 80’s, Mallory should see recruiting heat up with the weather as we head into mid-summer.

Stay tuned for more player features and write-ups of all players over the coming days from the Top Prospect Games Event.
