We are less than ONE WEEK from opening day for the 2025 KHSAA season! The Prep Baseball KY staff has been hard at work ranking the top 25 teams in the Bluegrass State. We are now individually previewing our top ranked teams as part of our Power 25 countdown. Our next preview belongs to #2 ranked Lyon County High School!

Record: 22-7 (home: 10-3, away: 5-2, neutral: 7-2)

Offensive stats: 243 H, 231 R, 85 XBH, .312 AVG

Pitching stats: 190.1 IP, 128 H, 63 ER, 226 K, 2.32 ERA

Head Coach Remarks:

"This year we returned our whole team from last season. We were fortunate and didn't have a kid graduate from our program. We are led by an outstanding SR class! Eli Baker (Radford), John Bingham (Mississippi State), Peyton Williams (WKU), Austin Spears (Northeast Mississippi CC), Korben Lucas (Frontier CC), Brady Belt, and Turner Hurst. We are excited about two freshmen we have this year: Hudson Phillips and Colton Prow. Hudson started last year as an 8th grader. Hudson was a utility guy for us last year and really excelled on the mound. He comes in this year sitting 81-83 and has topped 84. He has gotten a lot stronger and faster, so we look for good things with him. Colton did some DH work for us last year and helped Peyton Williams behind the plate. Colton is a very strong kid who we look to help us at the plate this year. We look to have a very strong rotation this year and our expectations are to be playing for a State Title in June. We have made a catching change this year so Peyton Williams can come into the rotation. Austin Spears will be taking over the catching duties. We were fortunate to have Brody Williams (Kent St) work with him on holiday break. Brody said that Austin could be a D1 catcher. This is coming from a D1 guy! So, expectations are very high in Eddyville, KY" - HC Ricky Baker

"Head Coach Ricky Baker returns his entire roster from last year’s 22 win squad who, after starting 0-4, rattled off 22 out of the next 25 games before being upset in the 2nd region quarterfinal. The Lyons, with roughly 270 students in grades 9-12, have an obscene amount of talent led by a loaded Senior class. Let’s start with Team Kentucky Future Games alums, seniors RHP/SS Eli Baker (Radford), who will work comfortably in the 87-90 range with devastating off speed. RHP/OF Peyton Williams (Western Kentucky), who did not log an inning on the mound last year, decided to hop on the bump and is flying up draft boards with his 92-96 MPH smoke, 87-89 Splitter, and a true 12-6 sharp curve ball. 2025 RHP/IF John Bingham (Mississippi State), who has long been on the radar, is another one being heavily followed by MLB scouts with a heater that has been up to 95 and secondary offerings that buckle knees. 2025 LHP/IF Brady Belt (0.91 ERA, 6-1, 67K’s) is one the top pitchers in the class and will work in the low to mid 80’s with disappearing secondary stuff. Freshman Hudson Phillips (1.68 ERA 3-0) will also play a key role after gaining valuable varsity time as an 8th grader. Offensively, look for senior C Austin Spears (Northeast Mississippi CC) and his 10 bombs with a .390 average to provide serious thunder in a potent lineup, this is a real bat that can change a game with one swing. Another senior, Korben Lucas (Frontier CC), returns 14 extra base hits and a gaudy .388 AVG. Look for senior Turner Hurst (.300 AVG) to have a breakout Spring and anchor down one of the OF spots. Eli Baker (.337 AVG, 18 extra base hits), Brady Belt (.313 AVG), John Bingham (.318 AVG), Peyton Williams (.291 AVG) will also be major contributors offensively for a team that obviously won’t need many runs to win. If the Lyons can get enough offense, this might be the year that Rick Baker brings home the hardware to Eddyville." - Jamie Tessoff
