Head Coach Remarks:

"The 2025 Somerset Briarjumper Baseball roster is loaded with some of the best arms in the state. Starting with seniors: #15 6’4 RH pitcher Raygan New, a Bellarmine University commit, features a low 90s FB, a great changeup and curveball. Stats for the 2024 season were 4-2 with a 4.74 ERA with 35K’s in 31 innings. #24 Isaiah Lewis RH pitcher, led all 12th Region pitchers with 1.32 ERA. Isaiah went 2-2 in 37 innings. Juniors: #5 Griffin Loy 6’4 is a RH pitcher and Duke University commit. Loy features a fastball consistently in the 90s, a hard slider and changeup. Griffin went 5-1 with a 1.96 ERA with 40k’s in 25 innings. Loy is also one of the Jumpers top hitters as he sported a .327 batting average with 5 home runs. #10 Kole Grundy 6’4 is being heavily recruited as a two-way player at the next level. Grundy went 3-2 with a 2.79 ERA with 56K’s and 19 walks in 42 innings. At the plate, Grundy led the Jumpers in all offensive categories with a .400 batting average, 39 RBI and 6 home runs last season. #4 Caynan Sizemore is a 3 year starter at SS for the Jumpers, and plays with high and infectious energy and great baseball instincts. Caynan is just scratching the surface of his potential. In the 2024 season, he batted .286 with 1HR, 9 doubles and 26RBI. #11 Connor Roberts had a huge season and had jumped onto several college recruiting boards. The left hand swinging second baseman had a breakout season batting .369 with 17RBI while playing a near flawless season defensively at 2nd base. #23 Luke Poynter is a 6’5 RH pitcher. His 2025 season boasted a 2-2 Record 2.55 ERA in 22 innings. He had wins on the road against Madison Central and Corbin." - HC Phil Grundy

State Director's Input:

"The time for waiting is over for the Briar Jumpers as these players have been playing for years together and appear to be a real threat. The undoubted strength for this squad will be the absurd amount of arm talent at Head Coach Phil Grundy’s disposal. Senior Raygan New (Bellarmine) will look to spearhead this staff. New will work a low 90s heater with some wicked secondary offerings to boot. The stuff for New has never been questioned and, if he can reign in the command, look for the big righty to be in Pitcher of The Year conversations. A pair of junior Team Kentucky Future Games participants will play a large role as well, with Griffin Loy (Duke) expected to carry a load on the bump and provide thump in the middle of the order. Kole Grundy (Uncommitted), who is garnering a lot of D1 interest, brings back his .400 AVG, 5 home runs and more middle of the order thunder. Look for Grundy to be a force on the island as well, bringing back 56Ks in 42.2 IP. Junior Joseph Poynter (2.55 ERA) will be another big arm as well. Not to be forgotten is senior Isaiah Lewis (1.32 ERA) to help round out one of the top staffs in the Commonwealth. Another Team Kentucky Future Games participant is Caynon Sizemore (.286 AVG, 10 XBH), who will man shortstop and look to anchor the defense while looking for a big year at the dish. Last but not least is junior Connor Roberts (.369 AVG), who will also have to provide much needed offense for the team to achieve the success it wants. This is a big, physical team that will have as much juice in the lineup as any squad in Kentucky, but for that to happen they will need to cut down on some swing and miss and put pressure on opposing defenses. This is a squad that looks poised to make big noise this Spring, and one that looks like it has the makings of a serious Championship contender." - Jamie Tessoff
