#17 - COVINGTON CATHOLIC: COLONELS

Region: 9

District: 35

Head Coach: Bill Krumpelbeck

2024 Record: 31-6

Postseason Finish: Region 9 semifinalists

Team Strengths: Offense, baserunning

Newcomers:

Impact Players:

  • 2025 Jackson Reardon - MIF
    • .463 AVG, 56 H, 47 R, 36 RBI, 24 XBH, 18 BB, 20 SB
  • 2025 Alex Yuskewich - MIF
    • .439 AVG, 36 H, 23 R, 30 RBI, 12 XBH, 13 BB
  • 2025 Marcus Suwinski - RHP/3B
    • .247 AVG, 24 H, 29 R, 24 RBI, 7 XBH, 32 BB, 12 SB
    • 5-1, 45.2 IP, 13 ER, 15 BB, 45 K, 1.99 ERA
  • 2025 Ben McEvoy - 3B
    • .294 AVG, 20 H, 14 R, 13 RBI, 12 BB
  • 2025 Brian Finke - MIF
    • .288 AVG, 17 H, 23 R, 14 RBI, 18 BB
  • 2026 Logan Wermuth - RHP
    • 13.0 IP, 6 ER, 12 K, 3.23 ERA
  • 2025 Michael Rozell - MIF/RHP
    • 12.0 IP, 0 ER, 16 K, 0.00 ERA

State Director's Take: "Despite losing 167 innings pitched on the mound, the Colonels return a host of talent offensively and hope that some of the young, unproven arms will mature sooner than later this Spring. Offensively, look no further than Jackson Reardon (Cincinnati commit), who is garnering some draft interest to lead the boys from Northern Kentucky. The uber talented shortstop hit .463 with 24 extra base hits while swiping 20 bags. Alek Yuskewich returns with his .439 average, and will be expecting support from a trio of juniors in Marcus Suwinski, Ben McEvoy, and Brian Finke, who will also be expected to carry more of a load on the bump. This is where it gets tricky for the Colonels, because Marcus Suwinski, with his 5 wins and miniscule 1.99 ERA, is the only returner with more than 13 innings pitched from last Spring. Two sophomores in Logan Wermuth and William McEvoy, along with junior Michael Rozell (0.00 ERA in 12 IP) will have to step up for the Colonels for Catholic to get out of a 9th Region that looks wide open." - Jamie Tessoff

#18 - BOWLING GREEN: PURPLES

Region: 4

District: 14

Head Coach: Nathan Isenberg

2024 Record: 29-7

Postseason Finish: District 14 semifinalists

Team Strengths: "A very balanced team. I expect BG to score runs, play defense, and dominate on the mound again." - HC Nathan Isenberg

Newcomers:

Impact Players:

State Director's Take: "Expectations are high per usual for the Purples, who lost a couple key pieces but return a bevy of contributors from last year’s 29 win squad. This team brings back 7 game winner and .300+ hitting senior Drew Isenberg (Rend Lake commit), who is a nightmare on the mound and at the plate. Evan Schallert (uncommitted) brings back his .398 average and leadership as well to bolster the offense. Look for a bigger role on the bump and with the bat from junior James Yarbrough, who hit .386 in 57 AB’s last season. The unquestioned X factor is going to be the return of senior Grayson Newman, who missed last season with a broken ankle. The above-mentioned Isenberg and 6 game winner in senior Jackson Idlett look to anchor a strong pitching staff that won’t overpower you, but will fill up the zone and make opponents earn their way on the basepaths. This is a dangerous squad that will be a strong contender in what looks like a loaded 4th region and just might find themselves in Lexington come June." - Jamie Tessoff

#19 - MCCRACKEN COUNTY: MUSTANGS

Region: 1

District: 2

Head Coach: Zach Hobbs

2024 Record: 34-10

Postseason Finish: State finalists

Team Strengths: "We are fairly inexperienced this year but this is a talented young squad. This club has worked very hard this offseason and have a team first mentality. Every guy will be competing for every opportunity this season and I think that competition for playing time will help this team develop. I think pitching and defense will certainly be strengths for us, we are not as deep as we have been but our top 4-6 guys on the mound are going to give us a chance to be in most ballgames. Offensively, we will be replacing a lot and it will take some time to find the right combination of guys. Team speed and handling the bat will be a key to our success this season." - HC Zach Hobbs

Newcomers:

Impact Players:

State Director's Take: "Despite losing 15 seniors (yes, you read that right), the cupboard, believe it or not, is anything but bare in Paducah for Zach Hobb’s Mustangs. Look for the 'Stangs to be led by a couple Team Kentucky Future games alumni in juniors Kendrick Dunning and Will Fox (Louisville commit), who was absolutely dominant at LakePoint. Dunning is receiving major D1 interest, and Fox has a starter profile written all over him at the next level. Expect a big year from talented 2026 OF/LHP Caden Kern and rising uncommitted senior Noah Godwin. A couple more names to know who will be counted on heavily are juniors Josh Penrod and Lane Grace. The road to Lexington is not quite as clear cut for McCracken this year, and it will take these newcomers to rise to the occasion if they want to make it 13 straight years to the State Tournament." - Jamie Tessoff

#20 - LARUE COUNTY: HAWKS

Region: 5

District: 18

Head Coach: Kellen Lobb

2024 Record: 19-18

Postseason Finish: State round of sixteen

Team Strengths: "Our biggest strength will be our defense. We lost one senior, Baines Turner. We have everyone else back. Another strength will be pitching. We did not lose anyone and won the region for the second year in a row, starting 3 freshman in the region tournament. They are competitors, with great speed and good discipline at the plate. These boys are like brothers, and we are a FAMILY first program. They don't get down, and know how to battle through adversity." - HC Kellen Lobb

Newcomers:

  • 2025 Lucas Thompson - OF/IF
  • 2027 Tyler Bartley - INF

Impact Players:

  • 2027 Cole Miller - INF/OF
    • .312 AVG, 34 H, 32 R, 24 RBI, 18 BB, 18 SB
    • 11.2 IP, 4 ER, 12 K, 2.40 ERA
  • 2027 Brayden Singleton - LHP/1B
    • .400 AVG, 38 H, 18 R, 35 RBI, 14 XBH, 35 BB
    • 7-4, 58.1 IP, 22 ER, 79 K, 2.64 ERA
  • 2026 Ryan Hughes - C
    • .370 AVG, 27 H, 27 RBI, 9 BB
  • 2027 Dekker Thomas - OF/INF
    • .305 AVG, 32 H, 36 R, 16 RBI, 18 BB, 20 SB
  • 2026 Brady Skaggs - MIF
    • .284 AVG, 31 H, 31 R, 18 RBI, 23 BB, 19 SB
  • 2027 Brady Abell - 3B
    • 18.2 IP, 17 ER, 24 K, 6.38 ERA
  • 2027 Creed Price - RHP/OF
    • 2-1, 23.1 IP, 14 ER, 35 K, 4.20 ERA
  • 2026 Kobe Cahoe - INF/OF
    • .224 AVG, 17 H, 14 R, 13 RBI, 13 BB
  • 2027 Ayden Seidl - INF/RHP
    • 3-2, 41.0 IP, 15 ER, 18 BB, 47 K, 2.56 ERA
  • 2027 Hunter Richardson - 3B/RHP
    • 13.0 IP, 4 ER, 13 K, 2.15 ERA

State Director's Take: "After 2 years of sneaking up on opponents, the cat is out of the bag and Kellen Lobb’s Hawks have absolutely arrived. 2 straight trips to Lexington for the still young squad, who will have a bullseye on their backs this Spring. One of the top 2027 players in the country is back to lead this talented squad in LHP/1B Brayden Singleton... the young Southpaw already up to 90 with the heater, and vicious secondary stuff will be a hot commodity come August 1st. It does not stop there, with 2027 Creed Price, and 2026s Ayden Seidl and Brady Skaggs bolstering this deep staff. Look for 2027s Cole Miller and Dekker Thomas to help with the offense, and super talented 2026 catcher Ryan Hughes chipping in as well. The Hawks are still baby face young, but two straight trips to Lexington have them battle tested and are a matchup nightmare with Singleton on the bump. High expectations this spring in LaRue County." - Jamie Tessoff

#21 - WHITLEY COUNTY: COLONELS

Region: 13

District: 50

Head Coach: Jeremy Shope

2024 Record: 28-11

Postseason Finish: Region 13 finalists

Team Strengths: Pitching, depth

Impact Players:

  • 2026 EJ Allen - INF/RHP
    • .407 AVG, 50 H, 46 R, 29 RBI, 17 XBH, 25 BB, 17 SB
    • 7-3, 62.0 IP, 16 ER, 13 BB, 54 K, 1.81 ERA
  • 2025 Ronald Osborne - 3B/RHP
    • .339 AVG, 41 H, 29 R, 29 RBI, 15 BB
  • 2025 Jason Nunley - 1B/OF
    • .322 AVG, 37 H, 27 R, 29 RBI, 11 XBH, 8 BB
  • 2026 Shane Parker - OF
    • .198 AVG, 18 H, 27 R, 8 RBI, 13 SB
  • 2027 Trey Walton - CIF/RHP
    • 32.0 IP, 10 ER, 8 BB, 28 K, 3 SV, 2.19 ERA
  • 2027 Christian Wilson - RHP/UTL
    • 4-1, 30.0 IP, 10 ER, 25 K, 2.33 ERA
  • 2029 Kip Allen - RHP/UTL
    • 2-0, 28.2 IP, 6 ER, 27 K, 1.47 ERA
  • 2025 Chris Cureton - 1B/RHP
    • .258 AVG, 16 H, 9 R, 9 RBI, 15 BB

State Director's Take: "A familiar name finds itself in the Power 25 as Whitley County comes in at #21 despite losing some offense. Plenty of firepower returns, led by the smooth swinging junior EJ Allen (uncommitted), who raked to the tune of .407 and won 7 games on the mound with a 1.81 ERA. Help on the bump will be coming from a couple of talented 2027s in Trey Walton and Christian Wilson, along with a name to remember moving forward with 2029 Kip Allen, who, as a 7th grader, logged 28.2 innings with 27 K’s and a miniscule 1.47 ERA. Offense will be the question mark as the Colonels will need some of the younger players to provide help to Allen with fellow seniors Ronald Osborne (.339) and Jason Nunley (.322). One thing you can count on is that Head Coach Jeremy Shope will always have something up his sleeve, and the Colonels have proven they can take a punch. Look for Whitley to be right back in the mix for a trip to Lexington come June." - Jamie Tessoff

#22 - BEECHWOOD: TIGERS

Region: 9

District: 35

Head Coach: Kevin Gray

2024 Record: 22-14

Postseason Finish: Region 9 quarterfinalists

Team Strengths: Pitching, experience, depth

Newcomers:

Impact Players:

State Director's Take: "A down year for Kevin Gray’s Tigers still produced 22 wins, and with a bevy of returners and newcomers, Beechwood finds themselves at #22 entering the season. The no doubt strength of this team will be on the mound, where they return all but 25 significant innings. Look for senior Chase Flaherty, who was also the MVP in the football 2A State Title game, to get the ball and improve on an outstanding high school athletic career. He won’t overpower you on the mound but is a bully nonetheless and a true competitor. Super Sophomore Caleb Arrasmith, sunior Branton Stiles, and senior Kegan Hutton (Southeastern Illinois JC) will help to bolster the staff. Tyler Fryman (Louisville) is a walking toolshed and will lead this team offensively, with senior Matthew Cottengim providing leadership while holding things down up the middle." - Jamie Tessoff

#23 - GEORGE ROGERS CLARK: CARDINALS

Region: 10

District: 40

Head Coach: Eddie Brooks

2024 Record: 27-12

Postseason Finish: Region 10 semifinalists

Team Strengths: "We will be led by our pitching depth on a hill. Most are young arms but very talented. Looking for them to make the jump this season. At the plate we will need to fill some holes but I think the guys will meet the challenge." - HC Eddie Brooks

Newcomers:

Impact Players:

State Director's Take: "High hopes for 2nd year Head Coach Eddie Brooks and his talented Cardinals heading into the Spring, as they look to be a slight favorite in the 10th Region. This squad is filled with some tooled up players, led by senior Kamden McAlpin (EKU commit), who hit .330 with 15 extra base hits while swiping 27 bags. Look for Abrahm Howard (Team Kentucky Super Sophomore), one of the top 2027’s in the country to break out with his low 90’s fastball and power bat to be a threat offensively. Two-way Ben Fulks (Enterprise State commit) along with Team Kentucky Super Sophomores Abe Mullins and Tielor Howie, who all possess soft hands to go along with advanced actions defensively to hold down the middle of the diamond. If Eddie Brooks can get 2027 Haddon Cecil to take on a greater role on the bump with the other young talent there, the young Cardinals might find their way in Lexington this June." - Jamie Tessoff

#24 - MADISON CENTRAL: INDIANS

Region: 11

District: 44

Head Coach: Steve Roof

2024 Record: 23-12

Postseason Finish: Region 11 quarterfinalists

Team Strengths: "After losing 6 starters, Madison Central will look to rebuild in 2025. We will need to attack the zone, play catch at a high level, and have quality at-bats to be successful." - HC Steve Roof

Newcomers:

Impact Players:

State Director's Take: "Year in and year out, there are two things you can count on with Head Coach Steve Roof: that he will play a ton of guys, and come tournament time they will be ready to go. Despite losing 6 starters and an unfortunate ACL injury to Landen Broaddus, it’s next man up and business as usual for the Indians. Look for seniors Logan Cobb (3-1, 2.03 ERA) and Sam Coleman (3-0, 1.27 ERA) to anchor the staff with battery mate Nick Pietromonnaco (Transylvania commit) along with fellow senior Cannon Spivey pacing the offense. Should be interesting in what could be a wide open race to Lexington in the always tough 11th Region." - Jamie Tessoff

#25 - SPENCER COUNTY: BEARS

Region: 8

District: 30

Head Coach: Stuart Dill

2024 Record: 19-11

Postseason Finish: District 30 semifinalists

Team Strengths: "Experience and depth should be a strength as we return all of our lineup. We have 13 guys who played at the varsity level for us last year. We have a chance to be very good offensively with most of our lineup returning. Our pitching is the most significant question mark, but it has the potential to be solid if the guys continue to improve and stay healthy. If that happens, we believe we will have a good team that can compete in the always-tough 30th District and 8th Region." - HC Stuart Dill

Newcomers:

  • 2025 Noah Cropp - OF

Impact Players:

State Director's Take: "The Bears return every single contributing player from last season's 19 win squad, led by Marshall commit Carter Walters, who hit .352 with 3 home runs while swiping 33 bases to boot. Look for help offensively from junior Cameron Tindle, who clubbed 5 bombs himself. Big seasons are in store for Team Kentucky Super Sophomore Games members Eli Dockery and Griffin Kingsolver, who will both look to contribute on the mound as well with both possessing upper 80’s fastballs and above average secondary offerings. Even with those talented sophomores, look for the staff to be led by junior Robert Smith and seniors Jarret Stewart and Kaiden Fowler, who combined for 12 wins and 6 saves." - Jamie Tessoff
