Class of 2023 Rankings

Chris Fuller
Kentucky Director of Scouting

After a summer packed full of events, including the opportunity to see a contingent of Class of 2023 players, we release our 2023 rankings. These rankings will certainly continue to evolve as we get the opportunity to see more players from this class, many of whom have yet to play a high school varsity baseball game due to losing their freshman season this past spring. We will continue to update these rankings as necessary as more players enter the picture and players in the class continue their development.

Here, we take a look at the top five.

Thomas Howard sits at the top of the class. The 6-foot-3, 190 pound RHP committed to Louisville before his freshman year. Has shown a recent uptick in velocity, working 85-88 T89. He commands secondary pitches well including a sharp 69-72 mph curveball he can throw for strikes on any count. Howard also mixes in a a solid 76 mph changeup. He continues to be the top prospect in Kentucky's 2023 class with obvious upside and pitchability. There is certainly more velocity to come.

Evan Hart, a 6-foot-3, 185 pound lefty occupies the No. 2 spot. Hart is just scratching the surface of his potential as his velocity continues to climb. He works through a 3/4 slot with easy effort and a fastball that sits 82-84 with ASR that produced swing and miss at the Future Games. Hart shows excellent pitchability in working both sides of the plate and throws an effective 69-71 CB with late break. Hart has long levers with super easy velocity. There should be a significant increase in velocity in the near future as he possesses as much upside as any player in the class. He committed to Kentucky following his Future Games performance.

Louisville commit Luca Sandrella sits in the No. 3 position. The 6-foot-2, 160 pound RHP has huge upside and committed to Louisville before freshman year of high school. Sandrella has worked his fastball up to 86 mph with more velocity to come. He features a mid-70's curveball that likely will develop into a power slider as he continues to progress.

Catcher Jonathan Fitz checks in at No. 4. Fitz is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter with a strong lower half. He uses an aggressive approach at the plate, gets the barrel on plane, and looks to drive the ball with some natural lift in his swing. He recorded a 93 mph exit velocity during BP. Defensively, Fitz shows good catch-and-throw ability, highlighted by a very quick transfer and release. He shows 80 mph arm strength from the crouch, and that, coupled with the quick release, has produced 1.90-1.96 workout pop times. Fitz has established himself as the top catcher in Kentucky's 2023 class. He is currently uncommitted.

SS Alex Galan-Camejo finds himself in the No. 5 spot. Galan-Camejo isa  5-foot-10, 155 pound switch-hitting, advanced defender with athletic actions and soft hands. He’s a true SS who has the ability to stay there at the next level. Currently a better from his natural right side of the plate,  he has also shown the potential to hit from the left side at the next level. His defense is currently ahead of his offense at this point, but the swing tools are there. Galan-Camejo committed to Louisville late this summer.
