Midwest Future Games Spotlight: Catchers (Maxey and Shuler)

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Ethan Maxey is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound catcher from North Laurel HS.  He has good receiving and blocking skills, good arm strength, and shows athleticism behind the plate.  Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows the ability to make hard contact to all fields with some pop in his bat.  Maxey will see all of his action behind the plate for Team Kentucky.

Jakob Shuler is a 6-0, 195-pound catcher from Owensboro Apollo HS.  He is one of the two Class of 2016 players on the Team Kentucky roster.  While he still has some improvements to make in his transfer and release and arm strength, Shuler, who has only been catching for a year, is well on his way.  His best present tool is his left-handed bat with some pop.  Shuler led Apollo HS in virtually every offensive category this year as a freshman, including batting average, doubles, triples, and RBI, while also launching 4 home runs.
