Player Analysis: Team White from the Top Prospect Games

 Previously we released the complete statistical analysis from the 2013 Top Prospect Games.

Team White featured some impressive performances from several players over the two-day event.  Four players ran a sub 7.0 60 yard dash led by Zach Hurley at 6.72.  Eamon Hannan (6.85), Daniel Seitzinger (6.91), and Griffin Neuer (6.92) were the other sub 7 runners followed closely by Cole Womack at 7.00.

The team had impressive arm strength as well as Dale Gumm led the way from the outfield at 88 mph, Miles Lee was right behind at 87 mph, and Griffin Neuer and Zach Hurley each checked in at 85 mph.

Gumm also led the way on the infield at 84 mph followed by Cole Womack at 83 mph, and Eamon Hannan at 82 mph.

Gumm, despite showing raw footwork, also recorded a 1.86 pop time and 79 mph arm strength from the crouch.

Gumm led the charge again with a 92 mph tee exit velocity followed by Taylor Henley at 91 mph.

As for pitching, Hurley, Neuer, Hannan, Lee, Logan Mallory and Hunter Dunn all turned in impressive performances.

The following is a complete analysis of Team White.

Miles Lee, LHP/OF, St. Xavier HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect with athletic build, shows soft hands and fluid footwork in the outfield, plays through the ball well, shows a very accurate arm as every throw was on the bag, good arm strength at 87 mph from the outfield.  At the plate, hits from the right side with a balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, good use of lower half generates bat speed through the zone, shows the ability to hit to all fields, solid round of BP with consistent hard contact, ran 7.06 60 yard dash, registered 85 mph tee exit velocity.  On the mound, uses long and loose arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 81-83 mph touching 84 with some arm side run, showed the ability to cut his fastball as well, curveball sat 68-69 mph with 1/7 action and good depth, throws his changeup with good arm action at 75-77 mph with arm side run.  Solid two-way abilities from this 2014 prospect.

Hunter Dunn, RHP, Cooper HS, 2014
6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect with long build and projectability, uses medium arm action through high ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 85-86 mph with good arm side run, curveball showed late bite and 11/5 action at 73-75 mph, changeup is thrown with good arm action and shows some arm side run and sink at 76-78 mph.  Dunn’s fastball touched 87 mph at previous event, and he is certainly in the conversation as one of the top arms in the 2014 class.

Tyler Neeley, OF/1B, Trinity HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect with strong build, played outfield at this event but also plays first base, needs work attacking and playing through the ball better in the outfield, arm strength at 77 mph, made nice diving catch in game play.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup and wide base, smooth load, short stride, uses explosive lower half to create good bat speed through the zone, shows some stiffness, can benefit from relaxing hands, big power potential, raw strength in swing, ball jumps off his bat when squared up, potential to be a top power bat in the 2015 class, ran 7.22 60 yard dash, 84 mph tee exit velocity (up to 88 at previous event)

Davis Sims, 3B, St. Mary HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect, shows 80 mph arm strength across the infield, soft hands, made several nice plays in game play, feet work okay.  At the plate, hits from balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, can benefit from more lower half torque in swing, short path to the ball with line drive swing plane, showed the ability to hit to all fields in game play with single to left and to right-center, ran 7.57 60 yard dash, 82 mph tee exit velocity, solid 2015 corner prospect.

Daniel Seitzinger, OF/LHP, Lone Oak HS, 2015
6-foot, 160-pound prospect, shows good footwork on fly balls, needs to continue working on playing through the ball on the ground, accurate arm at 82 mph.  At the plate, slightly open setup, wraps some in load, short stride, good rhythm and balance, shows gap to gap approach, some lower half involvement in swing, 2 bloop hits in game play including one he hustled into a double, ran 6.91 60 yard dash, 80 mph tee exit velocity.  On the mound, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 74-77 mph and is straight, curveball shows gradual 1/7 action at 58-61 mph, throws curveball for strikes consistently, changeup is straight at 70 mph, more velocity to come with added physical strength and maturity.

Logan Mallory, RHP/1B, North Laurel HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect with athletic frame, good projectability, medium to long arm action, loose arm, high ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 82-83 mph with good arm side run, curveball showed late 11/5 action at 71-72 mph, good command, consistently pounds the zone.  As position player, shows soft hands, good feet around the bag, arm strength 79 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from open setup, short stride, wraps some in load, lower half gets involved in swing, long swing path, shows bat speed, 86 mph tee exit velocity, ran 7.35 60 yard dash.  Projects best on the mound, solid 2015 prospect.

Nick Shumaker, SS/2B, Lone Oak HS, 2014
5-foot11, 163-pound, left-handed hitting prospect, shows soft hands, fluid footwork, athletic actions, plays through the ball, arm strength at 78 mph across the infield, accurate arm and good body control.  At the plate, slightly open stance, squares front side, smooth load, short stride, good rhythm in swing, short path to the ball, ability to hit the ball to all fields, ran 7.09 60 yard dash, 80 mph tee exit velocity.

Lucas Alger, C, Grant County HS, 2014
5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect, shows good receiving and blocking skills behind the plate, shows some quickness in feet, quick glove to hand transfer, pop times registered 2.00 – 2.09 with 68 mph arm strength from the crouch.  At third base, fields ball deep, room to improve footwork and hands, 75 mph arm strength across the infield.  Offensively, uses a balanced/crouch setup, short stride, arm bar and wrap in load creates somewhat long swing path, shows the ability to go the other way, had solid single to left field in game play, ran 7.44 60 yard dash, 77 mph tee exit velocity.

Ryan Garner, 1B/LHP, Lone Oak HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect, shows good footwork, athletic actions, good body control, 76 mph arm strength.  At the plate, hits from open setup, smooth load, short stride, good use of lower half creates bat speed through the zone, line drive type hitter, solid round of BP with consistent hard contact, line drive single to left field in game action, ran 7.28 60 yard dash, 86 mph tee exit velocity.  On the mound, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, good rhythm in delivery, repeatable mechanics, 2-seam fastball showed some arm side run at 77-79 mph, also throws a cutter at 77-78 mph, curveball shows tight rotation and 1/7 action at 65-68 mph, throws 72 mph changeup with good arm action and arm side run, good upside on mound.

Griffin Neuer, OF/RHP, Lexington Catholic HS, 2014
6-foot-1, 160-pound, left-handed hitting prospect with projectable frame, moves well in outfield, soft hands, plays through the ball well, good arm strength at 85 mph.  Hits from balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, uses good lower half torque to create barrel whip through the zone, consistent hard contact in round of BP, hard single to right in game play and robbed of another hit by right fielder, solid left-handed hitting prospect, ran 6.92 60 yard dash.  On the mound, uses long arm action through a high ¾ slot, loose arm, good rhythm and balance in delivery, very good arm side run on fastball at 81-83 mph touching 84, showed good feel for curveball with 11/5 action at 65-66 mph, changeup is solid at 75 mph with arm side run thrown with good arm action, picked up velocity since previous event in Feb, projectable athlete with good 2-way ability.

Eamon Hannan, RHP/SS, St. Mary HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 153-pound prospect, long and lanky frame, big projectability, uses long arm action, very loose arm, good balance and rhythm in delivery, high ¾ arm slot, fastball sat 83-85 mph with some arm side run, threw one of the best sliders of the day with late/sharp action at 77-78 mph, big upside on the mound and potential to be a high-level pitching prospect.  As a shortstop, shows good lateral movement and body control, room to improve footwork and hands, good arm strength at 82 mph across the infield, made nice diving play in game action.  Hits from balanced/tall setup, drops hands in load, long swing path, good lower half torque in swing, hit well in game play with two solid singles and a triple to right-center, ran 6.85 60 yard dash, 89 mph tee exit velocity.

Seth Blanton, RHP, Johnson Central HS,
5-foot-11, 145-pound prospect, uses long arm action through ¾ arm slot, some stiffness in delivery,  fastball shows some arm side run at 78-80 mph, good command of curveball that showed sharp 11/5 action at 65-68 mph, has confidence in changeup which is a solid pitch thrown with good arm action at 72 mph with arm side run, good velocity for size, potential for more with added physical strength.

Cody Kalinowski, 1B/OF, Lexington Christian Academy, 2014
6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect with athletic build, shows athletic footwork, good hands, athletic first baseman, 78 mph arm strength across the infield.  As outfielder, moves well, athletic actions, long exchange, 76 mph arm strength.  Hits from balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half creates good bat speed through the zone, shows gap to gap approach, power potential as ball jumps off his bat, 2 line drive hits in game play with one up the middle and one to left-center, ran 7.21 60 yard dash, 88 mph tee exit velocity, solid 2014 left-handed bat.

Dale Gumm, 3B, John Hardin HS, 2014
5-foot-10, 190-pound, left-handed hitting prospect with strong lower half, showed better lateral movement in infield from previous event, has different arm action but strong/accurate arm across the infield at 84 mph, participated in catching portion of showcase, and showed good arm strength from the crouch at 79 mph with pop times ranging from 1.86 – 2.00, footwork is raw and needs work, shows better arm action from the outfield with a strong arm at 88 mph with carry.  At the plate, hits from an athletic setup, short stride, explosive lower half torque creates explosive bat speed, shows power potential, good round of BP squaring the ball up consistently, singled and doubled in game play, ran 7.25 60 yard dash, registered 92 mph tee exit velocity, projects as a power left-handed bat.

Kyle Lewis, C, Butler HS, 2014
6-foot, 180-pound, left-handed hitting prospect, shows good receiving skills, blocking and lateral movement behind the plate have shown definite improvement, solid footwork, pop times ranged between 2.03 – 2.10 with 74 mph arm strength from the crouch.  At the plate, hits from open setup, gets some lower half involved in swing, good balance, slight uphill path to the ball, showed improved bat speed over previous event with 79 mph tee exit velocity, ran 7.85 60 yard dash.

Cole Womack, SS/RHP, Lone Oak HS, 2015
6-foot, 180-pound prospect with athletic build, one of the top middle infielders at the event, soft hands, fluid footwork, good body control, 83 mph arm strength across the infield.  At the plate, open setup, smooth load, short stride, hands show some quickness, consistent hard contact, 2 hits in game play and lined out hard in one other at bat, ran 7.00 60 yard dash, 80 mph tee exit velocity.  On the mound, uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, easy effort and smooth rhythm in delivery, fastball sat 76-78 mph with some cutting action, good command of 12/6 curveball that sat 65-68 mph, throws changeup with good arm action that shows some cutting action at 73 mph.  Potential high-level 2015 middle infield prospect.

Zach Hurley, OF/RHP, North Laurel HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect with athletic build, shows athletic outfield actions, moves well, plays through the ball, strong, accurate arm at 85 mph.  At the plate, balances setup, smooth load, good balance, uses lower half torque to generate bat speed through the zone, showed the ability to go the other way with a single to right and triple to right-center in game play, ran 6.72 60 yard dash.  On the mound, Hurley is one of the top arms in the 2015 class, uses long arm action through a ¾ to high ¾ arm slot, loose arm, fastball sat 85-87 mph touching 88 with some arm side run, curveball shows sharp 11/5 action at 69-74 mph, struggled some with command early in outing but settled in, one of the top prospects in 2015 class with two-way ability.

Taylor Henley, 1B, Lexington Catholic HS, 2014
6-foot-4, 238-pound prospect, showed soft hands and good lateral movement, arm strength at 76 mph.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup and wide base, smooth load, short stride, good lower half torque in swing, definite power potential, ball jumps when squared up, solid contact in game play to all fields including sharp single to left, ran 7.83 60 yard dash which was a significant improvement from previous event, registered 91 mph tee exit velocity, also an improvement.  Solid 2014 prospect with power potential.
