Preseaon All-State Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis (Part Two)

A total of 22 corner infielders participated in the Preseason All-State Showcase on Sunday, Feb. 16 at Champions Baseball Academy in Lexington.  In part two of our evaluations, we take a look at the remaining half of the group of corner infield prospects.

CJ Bush, R/R, 3B, Lexington Catholic HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect , shows surprising quickness for bigger body guy, good lateral movement, hands are soft, arm plays at 79 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a slightly open and wide base, squares front side with a toe tap, shows a lot of pre-pitch hand movement, generates big bat speed through the zone, ball jumps of bat with backspin carry, projects as a power bat, ran 7.01 60 yard dash, showed big bat speed with 96 mph tee exit velocity.  Bush has the potential to be a high-level Class of 2016 prospect.

Colin Enlow, R/R, Woodford County HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 195-pound prospect, showed well defensively with soft hands, good lateral movement, and solid corner actions, arm played at 77 mph across the infield.  Offensively, Enlow took one of the most impressive rounds of batting practice of the day.  He starts in a balanced setup with minimal stride, good balance, repeatable swing, hands are loose and quick, squared up everything with line drive production and gap-to-gap approach, solid young hitter,  ran 7.28 60 yard dash, 84 mph tee exit velocity, definite follow in 2016 class.

Taylor Henley, R/L, 1B, Lexington Catholic HS, 2014
The 6-foot-5 Henley has the protoypical size to play the first base position at the next level.  Defensively, he moves well around the bag for his size and displays soft hands.  At the plate, Henley starts in a balanced setup with a short stride, and while he does tend to have an arm bar in his load, he consistently gets the barrel through the zone with good use of his strong lower half and good hand quickness, generates some lift and the ball shows backspin carry off the bat, projects as a power bat at the next level, ran the best 60 time we have seen from him at 7.68, showed big bat speed with 96 mph tee exit velocity.

Cody Kalinowski, 1B, L/L, Lexington Christian Academy, 2014
6-foot2, 194-pound prospect continues to show he is one of the top left-handed bats left on the board in the 2014 class.  He hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and displays good balance, shows quick hands and good use of lower half, repeatedly squares up the baseball each time we see him with a line drive producing stroke and occasional pull-side power.  Defensively he shows good athleticism at first base with soft hands and is capable of playing a corner outfield spot as well, 75 mph arm across the infield and 78 from outfield (81 OF at previous event), ran 7.29 60 yard dash, 90 mph tee exit velocity.

Davis Sims, 3B, R/R, St. Mary HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect with good corner size, has shown increase in strength and speed since last summer, showcased soft hands and solid corner actions with good arm strength at 80 mph across the infield.  At the plate, Sims showed good power with backspin carry, slight uphill path generates some lift, drives the ball to the gaps, ran 7.38 60 yard dash, showed big increase in bat speed with 95 mph tee exit velocity, potential high-level corner prospect.

Logan Wyatt, 3B, L/R, North Bullitt HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect with good corner size, shows soft hands and good lateral movement, accurate arm across the infield with good carry at 79 mph.  At the plate, the left-handed hitter shows a strong swing with good power, uphill path generates significant lift, hands are quick and consistently gets the barrel on the baseball, has the potential to be a power left-handed bat at the next level, ran 7.48 60 yard dash, showed big bat speed with 95 mph tee exit velocity, definite high follow in 2016 class.

Jacob Crouch, R/R, Paul Laurence Dunbar HS, 2015
6-foot-4, 185-pound prospect with lanky build, projectable frame, showcased soft hands and solid corner actions, shows good lateral movement, good body control with the ability to throw accurately on the move, gets rid of the baseball quickly with 74 mph arm strength across the infield.  At the plate, hits from an open setup, squares front side, shows consistent use of lower half, line drive type hitter with mid-field approach, ran his best 60 time to date of 7.66, showed 3 mph increase in tee exit velocity at 81 mph, continues to make gains.

John King, R/R, 3B, Harrison County HS, 2014
6-foot-6, 220-pound prospect , shows soft hands, tends to field ball deep, shows good body control and the ability to throw accurately on the run, accurate arm at 75 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with no stride, incorporates some lower half, good strength in swing, flat bat path, line drive production with some pull-side power, ran 7.76 60 yard dash, 88 mph tee exit velocity, with size may be ideal first base prospect at the next level.

Logan Mallory, R/R, RHP/1B, North Laurel HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect with athletic build, hands work in the infield, shows good arm strength at 81 mph across the diamond.  At the plate, hits from an open setup, squares front side with a short stride, wraps some in load, good use of lower half generates bat speed through the zone, level swing path with line drive production, shows some pull-side power, showed big increase in tee exit velocity to 93 mph, ran 7.54 60 yard dash (best has been 7.35 at summer event).

Easton McGee, R/R, RHP/1B, Hopkinsville HS, 2016
6-foot-6, 192-pound prospect with lanky build and projectable frame, shows soft hands at first base, fields ball deep, 79 mph arm strength across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with short stride, good balance, drops hands slightly in load, chest-level hand trigger with level swing plane, line drive type hitter, ran 7.75 60 yard dash, 86 mph tee exit velocity.

Steven Standafer, R/L, 1B/LHP, Shelby County HS, 2015
6-foot-6, 210-pound prospect with lanky build, hands work, 63 mph arm across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, arm bar load creates length in swing, uses frame to generate some bat speed, had a good round of batting practice consistently squaring the baseball with line drive production and a pull approach, ran 7.86 60 yard dash, 87 mph tee exit velocity.

Devin Vanover, R/R, 1B, Madison Southern HS, 2015
6-foot, 245-pound prospect, average corner hands, 70 mph arm strength across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a slightly closed setup, short stride, uses strong lower half well, shows strength in swing, slight uphill path creates some lift, shows some pull-side power, ran 7.85 60 yard dash, registered 92 mph exit velocity off the tee.
