The annual Preseason All-State Showcase at Champions Baseball Academy in Nicholasville included more than 120 players from all parts of the state looking to showcase their abilities prior to the high school season. In what is the premier preseason scouting event in the state, there were many standout performances which we will feature over the next week.

Complete stats for all players were posted a few days following the event.

The following is a look at the Class of 2017 Outfielders who participated in the event. This is position player analysis only. Those players who also pitched at the event will have that performance featured in a subsequent article.

Jack Schneider, OF, Daviess County, 2017
60 Time: 6.43, Position Velocity:  OF-94, Exit Velocity: 99
6-foot-3, 190-pound RHH has extremely impressive tools and freakish athleticism as evidenced by his measurables. Hits from a balanced stance, loads back with front leg, extremely quick hands with advanced bat speed, has tremendous raw power. Uses a two-handed approach to the ball on the ground, has center field speed, big time arm strength from a long high-3/4 release with plus life and carry. From a tools standpoint, Schneider is impressive to say the least. There is still some element of rawness in the swing, but there is no denying the impressive tools.

Sammy Mudd, OF/RHP, St Xavier, 2017
60 Time: 7.55, Position Velocity:  OF-84, Exit Velocity: 91
5-foot-8, 160-pound RHH hits from an open stance, loads up with a big leg kick, short stride, foot gets down late occasionally, quick hands and strong use of lower half generate above average bat speed, hard line drive contact to the middle of the field when he squared it up. Plays through the ball with a two-handed approach, shows athletic actions, uses a pronounced crow hop, long over the top release with solid arm strength and carry on throws. Have seen better 60 time (7.35).

Luke Wilson, OF/RHP, Henry Clay, 2017
60 Time: 6.97, Position Velocity:  OF-81, Exit Velocity: 90
6-foot, 180-pound athletic RHH hits from a balanced stance, short stride, uses a pre-pitch bat waggle that quiets down on release, line drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach, makes hard mid-field contact and also showed the ability to drive the ball to the right-center gap, runs well, has some quick-twitch athleticism. Plays through the ball with athletic actions, shorter high-3/4 release produced slightly above average arm strength and carry on throws. Athletic prospect with some upside.

Garrison Gray, OF, Model Laboratory, 2017
60 Time: 6.98, Position Velocity:  OF-79, Exit Velocity: 87
5-foot-9, 152-pound LHH hits from a balanced /wide base with a short stride, big jump in exit velocity from previous event, line drive type hitter with a mid to opposite field approach, fairly consistent line-drive contact, runs well and speed can be a threat from the left side of the plate, projects as leadoff or bottom of the order hitter. Plays through the ball with a to-handed approach, arm is loose and athletic, fluid footwork, showed improved arm strength with some carry from an over the top release.

Benjamin Keplinger, OF, Paul Laurence Dunbar, 2017
60 Time: 6.94, Position Velocity:  OF-81, Exit Velocity: 84
5-foot-11, 170-pound RHH shows good speed, hits from an open stance, squares up with a mid-length stride, took a solid round of BP making hard contact to the pull side, fairly flat bat path through the zone, some looseness in hands produce solid bat speed. Shows good athleticism defensively, plays through the ball aggressively, long high-3/4 release produced a big jump in arm strength than what he showed last summer, throws have above average carry, interesting athletic prospect.

Hunter Cromer, OF, Southwestern, 2017
60 Time: 7.14, Position Velocity:  OF-78, Exit Velocity: 83
6-foot, 175-pound RHH hits from a tall/open stance, gets to square with a short stride, has a rhythmic hand load with a wrap at times, gets the barrel in the zone on a line drive swing plane, gap to gap approach. Shows athletic actions and plays through the ball well, has a shorter high-3/4 release that produces average arm strength and carry. Has potential to be a corner OF at the next level.

Isaac Oelling, OF/RHP, Dixie Heights, 2017
60 Time: 7.53, Position Velocity:  OF-80, Exit Velocity: 86
6-foot-2, 175-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, utilizes a toe tap and short stride, looks to use the middle of the field, gets tied up occasionally on inner half, fairly flat path produces line drive contact, showed solid bat speed in exit velocity testing. Has a two-handed approach to the baseball, can be more aggressive in playing through at times, has a ¾ release with slightly above average arm strength, would like to see some improvement in foot speed.

Chase Robinson, RHP/OF, Madison Southern, 2017
60 Time: 7.31, Position Velocity:  OF-83, Exit Velocity: 81
6-foot-1, 165-pound RHH showed improved measurables across the board. Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, slight hand load, occasionally swings around the ball but does show some quickness in hands, line drive type hitter when he squares the baseball. Plays through the ball well with athletic actions, loose/athletic arm, long high-3/4 release produces good arm strength and solid carry on throws, has continued to make solid strides in overall game.

Nicholas Workman, OF, Mayfield, 2017
60 Time: 7.27, Position Velocity:  OF-74, Exit Velocity: 88
5-foot-10, 175-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, short stride, level swing path, occasionally cuts off lower half, shows some hand quickness which produced solid bat speed in exit velocity testing, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, shows average outfield speed. Has a tendency to break down instead of playing through the baseball, long high-3/4 release with average arm strength and carry.
