Q & A with Spalding commit Kyle Olliges (Pleasure Ridge Park HS)

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Recently, Kyle Olliges committed to Spalding University.  Olliges, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound RHP from PRP HS is ranked No.45 in the class of 2013.  Prep Baseball Report recently caught up with Olliges to discuss his baseball career and commitment to the Golden Eagles.

PBR: Why did you choose Spalding?

Olliges:  I choose Spalding because I could stay at home and not have to worry about traveling and other things.  Also the coaching staff is great and I love what they have done with the program. Finally, while I was on a visit I got to meet a few of the players and they were great guys and had the same goal and it was to win.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Olliges: I was also considering Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you play?

Olliges: Coach Downs, the pitching coach, first saw me in the summer while I was pitching against Louisville Baseball Club. Coach sheets first saw me throw at the Eastern Kentucky fall prospect camp.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your freshman year?

Olliges: The coaches expect me to be a huge impact on the pitching staff as a freshman even though I am a young player and new to the college game. During my freshman year the coaches expect me to grow into a mature player and become a leader.

PBR: What would you consider your biggest strength as a player?

Olliges: My biggest strength as a baseball player would be my heart for the game. Having the heart to go out and compete is one thing that can stand out in a player.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on your baseball career?

Olliges: The biggest impact on my baseball career would have to be my assistant baseball coach at PRP, Richie Hawks. He has never led me wrong and I have always trusted him in everything he has told me.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?

Olliges: In the summer I play with my high school team and we go on a trip to Memphis, TN and play in a tournament. We also play in a league at PRP over the summer ball season.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment?

Olliges: My most memorable baseball moment would be going to the state tournament as a sophomore. Even though I was a bullpen guy it was a memorable moment to be at the state tournament and give me an experience that is rare to many high school baseball players.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced in the state of Kentucky?

Olliges: I think the toughest hitter I have faced in the state of Kentucky would be Clayton Kelly from North Bullitt High School.

PBR: What are your goals for your senior season at PRP?

Olliges: My goals for my senior season at PRP are to have an undefeated pitching record and help my team make a run at a State Championship.
