Sophomore Spotlight: RHP/3B Griffin McLarty

By Chris Fuller

Griffin McLarty, RHP/3B, Oldham County HS, 2016mclarty

Griffin McLarty is a 6-foot-2, 160-pound prospect who showed very well at the Underclass Games Event in August at Eastern Kentucky University.

On the mound, McLarty established himself as a potential high-level prospect in Kentucky’s 2016 class.  He uses long and loose arm action that produced an 82-84 mph with good arm side-run and a 74-75 mph breaking ball with late bite.  With his projectable frame and arm, there is certainly more velocity to come for the sophomore right-hander.

When he wasn’t on the mound, McLarty was busy showing his skills as a position player as well.  At third base, he showed solid corner actions and good body control with an 81 mph arm across the infield.  The left-handed hitter possesses quick hands and uses his lower half well in his swing.  He registered a 7.09 60-yard dash time as well.

McLarty, currently ranked No.6 in Kentucky’s 2016 class and No.58 in the 2016 overall rankings, has put himself squarely on the radar for selection to Team Kentucky and the Midwest Future Games.  McLarty will be participating in the Pre-Season All State Showcase on February 17 in Lexington.
