Top Pitching Performances at the Northern KY/Cincinnati Prospect ID Showcase

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Some very talented players in the Class of 2013, 2014 and 2015 in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois had an opportunity to showcase their abilities at the Northern KY/Cincinnati Prospect ID Showcase on December 30. Today we breakdown the top pitching prospects from the showcase.

Seth Murphy, RHP/SS, Class of 2015, Garrard County HS (KY)
Murphy had an impressive bullpen session.   The 6-foot, 160-pound sophomore showed repeatable, on-line mechanics and long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot that produced an 85-88 mph fastball with some arm side run.  His curveball sat at 65-66 mph and showed sharp 12/6 action when down in the zone.  He threw a 70-71 mph change up with near fastball arm speed that showed good arm side run and sink.  Murphy is definitely a player to watch in the Class of 2015 and received an invitation to play for Team Kentucky in PBR’s Under Armour Midwest Future Games in August.

Justin Clark, RHP, Class of 2013, Miamisburg HS (OH)
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound RHP showed on-line mechanics and long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot that produced an 85-88 mph fastball that was fairly straight.  His curveball sat at 73-74 mph with sharp 11/5 break and has the potential to be a plus pitch with more consistent location.  He threw a change up that sat 73-76 mph that showed good arm side run and sink.  He had a tendency to slow his arm speed a little when throwing the change up.

Jordan Martin, RHP, Class of 2013, Harrison County HS (KY)
Martin is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound RHP with a strong body.  He showed on-line, repeatable mechanics with long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot that produced an 84-86 mph fastball.  His curveball is a plus pitch that showed sharp 11/5 action at 69-70 mph.  He threw a 73-76 mph change up with good arm speed that showed some tumbling action.  Martin fills up the zone with all 3 pitches and shows excellent pitchability.

Brandon Ward, RHP, Class of 2013, Covington Catholic HS (KY)
Ward is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound RHP who lost his junior season to an ACL injury.  He showed on-line mechanics and long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot that produced an 84-86 mph fastball with some arm side run.  He showed an 11/5 curveball with sharp break that sat at 73-74 mph.  His change up sat 80-81 mph with good arm action but needs a little more velocity difference off his fastball.  Look for Ward to add a little velocity and be 100 percent when he takes the mound this spring for Covington Catholic.

Yancey Pritchett, RHP, Class of 2013, Trinity HS (KY)
Pritchett is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound RHP that showed on-line mechanics with an 82-84 mph fastball that had good arm side run.  His showed a tight 11/5 curveball with good depth that sat 69-71 mph.  He throws the curveball with fastball arm speed and is able to throw it for strikes consistently.   He showed a change up with good arm action that sat at 74-75 mph and had good arm side run and sink. Pritchett throws from a high ¾ arm slot with short, quick arm action that requires some effort.
