Top Prospect Games Spotlight: Warren Central 2016 RHP Josh Floyd

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to take a look at players who will be participating in the PBR Kentucky Top Prospect Games at Western Kentucky University June 16-17. The event affords players the opportunity to showcase their abilities in pre-game infield/outfield, batting practice, and game play. More than 40 players who attended last year’s Top Prospect Games event have committed to play at the college level with many more yet to come. This year’s event will feature the top uncommitted Class of 2016 and 2017 players from across Kentucky.

Josh Floyd, a highly projectable 6-foot-4, 175-pound RHP from Warren Central HS, showed the jump in floydvelocity we’ve been expecting at the Preseason All-State Showcase in February. Below is a look at Floyd’s scouting report from that event.

2/14/15 6-foot-4, 175-pound RHP with ideal pitcher’s frame that projects well, showed expected significant increase in velocity, uses long arm action and works through a high-3/4 slot, clean arm action, quick arm, minimal effort in delivery, fastball sat 84-87 mph touching 88 with good downward tilt, shows some feel for 66-70 mph curveball with 11/5 action, 71-73 mph changeup shows some sink and fade. Floyd has made the expected jump in velocity with more possibly to come, good upside for the projectable right-hander.

The right-hander, currently ranked No. 13 in Kentucky’s 2016 class, will take the mound at the Top Prospect Games looking to solidify his status as one of the top uncommitted arms in the state.

There are still very limited spots remaining in the Top Prospect Games event except for 3B and C.
