Top Prospect Games: Team 6 (Navy) Position Player Analysis

The 2016 Top Prospect Games took place on June 14-15 and afforded more than 150 players from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities to the PBR Kentucky staff and numerous college coaches in a combination showcase/game play event.

The following is an in-depth look at the position players from Team 6 (Navy). Please note that this is position analysis only. Those position players who also participated as a pitcher at the event had their pitching performance featured in a previous article.

middle infielders

Tyler McCullough, SS/RHP, Middlesboro, 2018
60 Time: 7.06, Position Velocity:  IF-85, Exit Velocity: 88
6-foot-3, 165-pound RHH with lanky and projectable frame, showed good tools across the board, hits from a balanced stance, short stride, stays quiet and has an aggressive approach, flashes projectable power, went 2-for-3 in game play with singles to LF and RF, above average runner. Shows good footwork and hands defensively, works through the ball well, good body control, strong/accurate throws across the infield. McCullough’s size and tools make him a very intriguing player in the 2018 class.

Ben Wilcoxson, SS, Lexington Catholic, 2017
60 Time: 7.15, Position Velocity:  IF-80, Exit Velocity: 83
5-foot-8, 160-pound RHH really stood out defensively especially during game play where he made several athletic plays, has soft hands with a quick release, good body control and ability to throw accurately from multiple arm slots, solid arm strength with accurate throws across the infield. Hits from a balanced stance, short stride, good balance, works the middle of the field well, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single to LF and a stolen base.


Austin Dick, SS/RHP, Somerset, 2017
60 Time: 7.09, Position Velocity:  IF-72, Exit Velocity: 83
6-foot-1, 160-pound RHH hits from an open stance, short stride, repeatable swing that produces consistent mid-field line drive contact, loose hands, excellent balance throughout contact, had one of the best rounds of BP of the event consistently squaring the baseball. Shows athletic defensive actions with soft hands and good body control, fluid footwork, average arm strength with a quick release, will likely see a move to second base at the next level.

catchers

Jackson Millhollan, C, Ballard, 2017
60 Time: 6.89, Pop Time: 2.09-2.15, Position Velocity:  C-73, Exit Velocity: L-78, R-86
5-foot-8, 140-pound, athletic switch-hitter posted one of the top 60 times of the event, has a similar approach from both sides of the plate with a slightly open stance and short stride, swing is shorter from the right side with significantly better bat speed, line drive type hitter who looks to use all fields, incorporates speed into offensive game, had one of the better days of the event in game play going 3-for-4 with an infield single and two singles to LF, used his speed to steal three bases. Showed an improvement in arm strength and pop times behind the plate, uses his athleticism to his advantage. Millhollan has made solid overall strides in his game.

Cameron McCabe, C, Ryle, 2018
60 Time: 7.50, Pop Time: 2.14-2.25, Position Velocity:  C-71, Exit Velocity: 81
5-foot-10, 180-pound RHH ran an improved 60 time and recorded his best exit velocity to date. Hits from a balances stance, uses a leg kick and short stride, short swing path, foot got down late at times in BP, line drive type hitter, went 0-for-3 in game play. Showed similar arm strength and pop times as previous event, solid transfer and release with online footwork.

corner infielders

Maclaine Morris, 3B/RHP, Henderson County, 2018
60 Time: 7.38, Position Velocity:  IF-80, Exit Velocity: 78
6-foot-1, 145-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, short stride, slight hand load to initiate swing, average bat speed, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, went 0-for-4 in game play making contact in each trip to the plate, offensive game will benefit from added strength. Shows solid corner actions with soft hands and good athleticism, a long high-3/4 release produces solid arm strength across the diamond.

Michael Blair, 1B, Trinity, 2017
60 Time: 7.15, Position Velocity:  IF-80, Exit Velocity: 88
6-foot, 175-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, short stride, some stiffness in swing, opposite field approach, showed ability to generate bat speed in exit velocity testing, went 1-for-3 in game play with a single to RF. Athletic first baseman with above average footwork around the bag, showed good arm strength with accurate throws.

Dalton Gregory, 1B, Madison Southern, 2018
60 Time: 7.99, Position Velocity:  IF-77, Exit Velocity: 84
6-foot-5, 225-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance short stride, has strength in swing with power potential, has a pull approach, went 1-for-3 in game play with a single to LF. Shows average hands and feet around the first base bag, solid arm strength with accurate throws.

Ethan Neal, 3B/RHP, George Rogers Clark, 2019
60 Time: 8.57, Position Velocity:  IF-65, Exit Velocity: 74
6-foot, 193-pound RHH hits from a balanced stance, short stride, steep swing path at times, some upper body stiffness, opposite field approach, average bat speed, went 0-for-3 in game play making contact to the right side of the field. Shows average defensive hands, has a ¾ release across the diamond with developing arm strength.

outfielders

Reece Puckett, OF, Bardstown, 2018
60 Time: 6.75, Position Velocity:  OF-83, Exit Velocity: 89
5-foot-9, 155-pound RHH showed why he is one of the top ranked outfielders in the 2018 class, posted the top 60 time of the event at 6.75. He has a quiet approach at the plate with no wasted movement and a repeatable swing that produces consistent line drive contact,  impressed with one of the best rounds of BP of the day, uses his athleticism well in the outfield and has a quick release that produces solid arm strength, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single to LF and a stolen base.

Josh Morgan, OF, Sayre, 2017
60 Time: 7.05, Position Velocity:  OF-85, Exit Velocity: 92
6-foot-2, 185-pound RHH with strong/athletic frame, hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, showed ability to lift the ball with very good pull side power in BP, ball jumps off the barrel, went 1-for-3 in game play with a single to RF, aggressive on the base paths with two stolen bases. Athletic defender who plays through the ball well, showed a big jump in arm strength with very accurate throws from a high-3/4 release. Morgan is a very solid player with good tools and projectable power in the bat.
