Top Prospect Games: Team White Position Player Analysis

The PBR Kentucky Top Prospect Games took place June 16-17 at Western Kentucky University and afforded close to 120 players from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities to the PBR Kentucky staff and many college coaches in attendance. The following is a look at the position players from Team White. This is position player analysis only. Those position players who also pitched at the event had that evaluation featured in a previous article.

Middle Infielders

Brayden Sisson, SS, R/R, South Oldham HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance and gets to square with a short stride, generates good bat speed, 87 mph exit velocity, impressed in BP with consistent line drives and flashes of gap power, ran 4.72 down the line, went 0-for-4 in game play. Showcased 85 mph arm strength that plays well on the left side of the infield, long high-3/4 release, plays through the ball well, projectable frame with room to continue to fill in.

Luke Brown, SS/RHP, L/R, Bowling Green HS, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitter, flashed his speed with 4.15 home to first time, hits from a wide base with no stride, hands are set low, flat bat path stays in the zone, line drive type hitter who sprays the ball to all fields, 76 mph exit velocity, went 4-for-4 in game play that included an infield single. Showed average hands defensively, accurate throws across the infield with 80 mph velocity, can work through the ball better, may project better as an outfielder at the next level, very interesting 2017 prospect with tools.

Brandt Pawley, 2B, L/R, Central Hardin HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 155-pound left handed hitter, flashed his speed with 4.17 home to first time, hits from a balanced stance, short stride with good balance, level swing path, mid to opposite field approach in BP, shows some bat speed, 82 mph exit velocity, went 1-for-4 with a single to right in game play. Shows soft hands with fluid footwork, quick exchange with short ¾ release, 74 mph velocity, accurate throws with good body control and ability to throw from multiple arm angles, athletic defender.

Corner Infielders

Dominick Lawson, LHP/1B, L/L, Nelson County HS, 2017
6-foot, 182-pound left-handed hitter hits from a tall stance, leg kick trigger with a long stride, short swing path, line drive type hitter, 82 mph exit velocity, ran 4.62 down the line, went 1-for-3 in game play with a solid single to right field. Shows some athleticism defensively, soft hands, moves well around the first base bag, 75 mph velocity across the infield, accurate throws.

Josh Graves, 3B, R/R, Nelson County HS, 2018
6-foot-1, 168-pound right-handed hitter showed impressive power for age. Hits from a balanced stance with a mid-length stride, well above average bat speed, 84 mph exit velocity, loose hands, creates some lift with swing and shows pull-side power, ran 4.94 down the line, went 0-for-4 in game play and struggled at times to handle higher velocity. Showed average hands defensively, short high-3/4 release, 71 mph arm strength with accurate throws, will need to continue to improve defensively, bat is current best tool and one to keep an eye on.

Trey Woosley, 1B, L/L, Breckinridge County HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 167-pound left-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, long stride with average balance, uphill swing path, shows some pull-side power, 81 mph exit velocity, ran 4.63 down the line, went 1-for-4 with a single to left in game play. Soft hands defensively, fluid footwork around the bag and choppy in the outfield, quick/clean exchange with 75 mph infield velocity and 79 mph outfield velocity, throws have a tendency to tail offline from the outfield.

Lukas Tackett, 3B/RHP, R/R, Spencer County HS, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with mid-length stride, arm bar in load phase creates some length in swing, showed some bat speed with 84 mph exit velocity, ran 4.89 down the line, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single. Showed average hands defensively, long high-3/4 release with 76 mph velocity across the infield, accurate throws.

Catchers

Jackson Campbell, C/OF, R/R, Logan County HS, 2017
5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitter, flashed good speed with 4.20 home to first time, hits from a narrow/open stance and squares front side with a longer stride, good lower half torque and maintains balance through swing, shows hand quickness, 81mph exit velocity, went 2-for-4 in game play with two singles. Athletic defender in the outfield, very accurate throws with 84 mph velocity and online carry. Behind the plate has an extremely quick transfer and release, over the top release, 72 mph velocity, all throws on the bag with 1.90-1.96 pop times.

Hunter Combs, C, R/R, Muhlenberg County HS, 2017
5-foot-9, 185-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, short stride, good use of strong lower half generates bat speed, flashes power to the pull side, 83 mph exit velocity, ran 4.76 down the line, went 1-for-3 in game play with an infield single. Solid defensive catcher, receives ball well, quick transfer and release, good footwork, 76 mph velocity with pop times that ranged from 1.93-2.00, most throws accurate to the bag, very solid 2017 prospect.

Jonathan Jackson, C, R/R, West Jessamine HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter, hits from an open stance and gets to square with a mid-length stride, hands start close to body and load back, shorter swing path with extension through contact, ability to use all fields, 78 mph exit velocity, 4.82 home to first time, went 2-for-4 in game play with two singles. Solid receiver behind the plate, quick transfer with high-3/4 release, can gain more ground with feet on throws, 68 mph velocity, 2.08-2.20 pop times.

Outfielders

Josh Morgan, OF, R/R, Sayre HS, 2017
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitter, hits from a balanced stance, short stride with good balance, good lower half torque in swing, line drive type hitter with gap power, 84 mph exit velocity, makes consistent hard contact and should develop power game with additional strength, went 0-for-4 in game play with a deep fly out to center field. Plays through the ball with athletic actions, long high-3/4 release, 79 mph velocity with some carry and accurate throws, frame and bat make him a definite follow in 2017 class.

Jaren Lovely, OF/LHP, L/L, Magoffin County HS, 2017
6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitter continues to make strides in overall game, hits from a balanced stance, short stride, line drive type hitter uses all fields, occasional gap power, short path with extension through contact, 84 mph exit velocity, 4.51 down the line, went 1-for-4 in game play making solid contact. Showed an increase in arm strength at 84 mph with good carry, very accurate throws, plays through the ball well athletic actions, made two impressive diving catches in game play.

Jaxon Lashley, OF, R/R, Oldham County HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, strong hands, generates solid bat speed through the zone, 88 mph exit velocity, good round of BP with gap to gap approach and occasional pull side power, ran 4.70 down the line, went 2-for-3 in game play with two singles. Takes short/choppy steps in outfield and can attack the ball better, short high-3/4 release, 79 mph velocity with some accurate throws to the bag. Bat is current best tool.

Michael Riley, OF, R/R, Logan County HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter hits from a wide base with no stride, showed an increase in bat speed with 84 mph exit velocity, line drive type hitter hit well in game play going 2-for-4 with two singles, shows some aggressiveness on bases with a stolen base, ran 4.50 down the line. Defensively showed 78 mph velocity from the outfield with a long ¾ release, mostly accurate throws, plays through the ball well.

Garrison Gray, OF, L/R, Model HS, 2017
5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed hitter showed plus speed with a 4.10 home to first time. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, average bat speed, 75 mph exit velocity, line drive type hitter uses all fields well, went 1-for-1 with a double to left field in game play before an injury cut short his day. Showed an accurate arm from the outfield, 76 mph velocity with average carry from short over the top release, shows quick feet and plays through the ball with a two-handed approach on the ground.
