Dale Gumm, C/3B, John Hardin HS, 2014gumm

Dale Gumm is a 5-foot-10, 195-pound, left-handed hitting C/3B who has shown well at multiple PBR events, most recently as a member of Team White in the Fall Prospect Program.

Gumm has shown good arm strength from all over the field with velocities of 84 mph across the infield, 88 mph from the outfield, and 79 mph from behind the plate.  When we first saw him last winter, he was primarily a third baseman, but he appears to have focused in on the catcher spot as his primary position.

He has shown improved skills behind the plate since the Top Prospect Games Event in June.  While his arm strength and pop times were good at the event, his footwork and receiving needed work.

This fall Gumm has displayed solid receiving and blocking skills.  His footwork has improved and additional refinement will continue to lead to more consistent throws to the bag.  He has thrown out two runners during the Fall Program and registered pop times of 1.90-2.02 during the showcase to begin the Fall Program.

Gumm has displayed his solid left-handed bat throughout the fall.  With one date left in the program this Sunday at the University of Kentucky, Gumm has gone 9-for-19 with two doubles and 4 RBI.  He uses his strong lower half to generate good bat speed through the zone and has shown the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields.  Gumm is currently ranked No. 34 in Kentucky’s 2014 class.
