As much as the weather has not cooperated the last several weeks, nevertheless the high school baseball season is just around the corner as the first day teams can begin playing regular season games in next Wednesday, March 12.  For us at Prep baseball Report, that means it’s time to update our player rankings as we have seen many new players at our winter events, while others we had seen previously have shown significant improvements in their game.

Today, we release the updated Class of 2014 rankings.  Below are a few highlights from the updated rankings.

+ The top 10 remains relatively the same with the only change being Henderson County OF Kaleb Duckworth sliding up a spot to No. 8.

+ McCracken County RHP/OF Preston Frommeyer burst onto the recruiting scene at the Preseason All-State Showcase with a fastball that sat 85-86 mph, topping at 87.  Previously unranked, Frommeyer enters the rankings at No. 41 and has committed to Kentucky Wesleyan since the event.

+ Other players who made a big entrance in the rankings after being previously unranked include Nelson County LHP Tyler Spalding at No. 61 and South Oldham LHP Drew Lively at No. 77.  Several other players have made their debuts the top 175 as well.

+ The biggest risers in the rankings include Boone County LHP/1B Trey Ganns (Northern Kentucky signee) at No. 27, Paducah Tilghman RHP Jeremiah White (Murray State signee) at No. 28, and a pair of projectable pitchers in Nelson County LHP Alex Briney at No. 60 and Bethlehem RHP Jimi Keating at No. 67.  At 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, Briney showed the most velocity we have seen from him by topping out at 83 mph with good pitchability at the Preseason All-State Showcase, and we have received credible reports that the 6-foot-3, 198-pound Keating has shown a fastball in the 83-85 range in preseason bullpens.
