The 2017 class in Louisiana has already shown to be extremely talented, with a couple sophomores already committing to major programs. The 2017 rankings are comprised of 25 players who have shown great promise to this point in their young careers.

Coming in at No. 1 is Louisiana State commit, and two-way prospect, Daniel Cabrera. Cabrera has already established himself as a premium talent out of John Curtis HS, as he hit in the middle of the lineup for a State Championship Runner-Up as a freshmen. Hitting from the left-side he shows outstanding rhythm and timing, consistently barreling balls up with a gap to gap approach. On the mound he has been battling injuries, but has shown a loose, whippy arm that can run it up to 87 mph with feel for secondary stuff.

Pitchability left-hander, Adam Goree, out of Barbe HS comes in at No. 2 after showing advanced feel for three pitches with mound presence that is way ahead of his time. Goree looks to make a huge statement this spring, as the defending national champions will rely heavily on this young lefty.

To round out the top 5 are: Jacob Pearson, West Monroe HS, left-handed hitting outfielder with plus bat speed, strength at contact and legitimate centerfield tools. Nick Webre, Teurlings Catholic HS, a left-handed power hitting catcher that has shown easy bat speed, natural leverage in the swing, and near college average catching tools. Peyton Johnson, Sam Houston HS, left-handed hitting corner infielder with smooth left-handed swing, gap to gap approach, and advanced hit tool. Johnson is also a right-handed pitcher with a clean, quick arm, mid-80s fastball, and feel for secondary stuff.

These rankings will be extended and updated periodically, as well as all other classes. Don’t forget, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana will be hosting the Underclass Trials for 2017 and 2018 grads on Memorial Day (May 25th) in Hammond, Louisiana. Space is limited, so don’t wait to sign up, the Underclass Trials will serve as an identifier for top talent to represent Louisiana in the PBR Future Games Powered by Under Armour, which is the premier scouting event for underclassmen in the country.
