Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Last season, we brought back our Player of the Year Award, after a shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Now, that the high school season has ended, we are excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels across the state.  This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

Ethan Frey's all-around performance, as well as the impact that he has had on Rosepine High School, has earned him the 2022 Prep Baseball Report Louisiana Player of the Year honor, as selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report Louisiana.  Frey, a Louisiana State University signee, had another monster year, both offensively and on the mound, to lead Rosepine to back to back LHSAA Class 2A State Championships.  At the plate, Frey hit .487 with 13 homeruns, 11 doubles, 3 triples, and had 64 runs batted in, to go along with 28 runs scored.  On the mound, he tallied a 5-0 record with 2 saves, and finished the year with a 0.77 ERA across 27 1/3 innings pitched, to go along with 43 strikeouts and only 10 walks.  Frey saved his best performance for the state tournament, where we won the Most Outstanding Player Award for the second consecutive year.  At the state tournament, he finished going 2-5 at the plate with a HR, 3B, and 6 runs batted in.  He also started and earned the win on the mound, in the state title game, for the second consecutive year after throwing 5 innings, while giving up 1 hit, 0 earned runs, and tallying 8 strikeouts.  Congratulations to Ethan Frey again on winning our 2022 Player of the Year Award!
