Destrehan High School is coming off of one of the more disappointing seasons in recent memory for their program. The Wildcats finished the 2021 campaign with a 12-12 overall record and falling to Walker HS in the first round of the playoffs. Head Coach Chris Mire is excited to get the 2022 season going and really likes the potential of this year's club. A veteran pitching staff will be one of the team's biggest strengths heading into the year and 2022 Noah Simon will be one of the guys leading the charge. The southpaw lives in the low-mid 80's with his FB to go along with a quality CB and CH. Along with Simon on the mound, will be fellow senior 2022 Gage Harding, who Coach Mire describes as a "bulldog" on the mound, who is ultra-competitive. 2022 LHP Cristian Ricks was sidelined last year with an ACL injury and is a guy that the Wildcats are very happy to get back for this spring, as he is a LHP with a ton of upside. Offensively, Simon and Harding will be big pieces to the puzzle for Destrehan, as well as a host of other guys who are unproven, but are ready to take that next step. 2023 3B Jon Carmichael is another gritty ballplayer who uses the whole field at the plate and has really improved defensively at the hot corner. The Wildcats 2024 class looks to contribute in a big way this year, with the likes of SS Brady Mire, OF Shane Lee, C Jayse DeGruy, and OF Jonah Haslauer. Mire is a sparkplug on the field and a high energy guy. Lee is an explosive runner with bat speed, who is still refining his game, but has tons of upside. DeGruy has an above average arm behind the dish and has improved a lot with his blocking and receiving, while Haslauer is a contact first type of hitter, who can hit to all fields. The Wildcats are in a very winnable district with Hahnville posing as their biggest threat. 2021 was an adjustment year for a lot of teams, coming out of the pandemic. We are eager to see this year's team get back to their winning ways, that has made them one of the better baseball programs across the state, year in and year out.
