2025 Team Preview: Acadiana High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Acadiana Rams enter 2025 with high aspirations, aiming to build on their semifinal run from 2024. Head Coach Clay Courtier has outlined three clear goals for his team heading into the spring:

-Win the district championship.

-Finish the regular season in the top four of the power rankings to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs.

-Return to Sulphur and compete for the program’s first state championship.

With a balanced roster, strong pitching, and a growing emphasis on mental toughness, the Rams have all the tools to achieve these goals. Health will be a key factor, but if this team can stay consistent and continue to develop, they have the potential to make history in 2025.

The Rams' pitching staff is expected to be the backbone of the team in 2025. With experienced arms like Grady LeBlanc, Gavin Foreman, and Ty Lamartina leading the rotation, the team also boasts a deep bullpen with options such as JL Malbrew (Jr.), Jesse Dean (Sr.), Jude Feehan (Jr.), Anthony Paternostro (Jr.), and Collin Dibetta (So.). This depth will allow flexibility in managing innings and matchups.

Another strength is the team’s position-player depth, giving Coach Courtier the ability to mix and match lineups based on matchups and situations. This versatility could be crucial during a grueling district schedule.

The Rams' primary challenge will be mental toughness and consistency. Coach Courtier emphasizes the importance of handling adversity and controlling what they can control—concepts that can be difficult for younger players to grasp.

Learning how to stay focused during the highs and lows of a game will be pivotal to the team’s success. If the Rams can develop their mental resilience, they could overcome this perceived weakness and become a more complete team by season’s end.

Top Returners

-Junior RHP/C/1B Gavin Foreman: Hit .364 last year with 2 HR, 4 2B, and 28 RBI.  He also went 4-4 with a 2.91 ERA and 40 K's on the mound last spring.  Foreman came to our Lake Charles Preseason ID and showed that he's made some velocity gains over the off-season, as he ran his FB up to 94 mph.

-Junior C/RHP Ty Lamartina: The former Future Gamer hit at a .320 clip last spring with 12 RBI, while also going 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA.  Lamartina is another guy that will run his FB up to 90-91 mph with a high-spinning 76-79 mph SL.

-Senior 1B/OF Kanyon Griffin: Last season, he finished with a .310 AVG, 5 HR, 8 2B, and 21 RBI.  Griffin showed well at our Senior Games event last fall, as he recorded the top max exit velocity at the event at 100.2 mph.

-Sophomore SS Collin Dibetta: A talented middle-infielder for the Rams, Dibetta looks to improve on a jam-up freshman campaign that saw him finish with a .333 AVG, 12 RBI, 10 SB.

-Senior RHP Grady Leblanc: The LSU-Eunice recruit is another key piece of the Rams rotation, after a junior season that saw him go 6-4 with a 2.41 ERA and 50 K's to only 17 BB.  Leblanc is another guy that will sit in the upper-80's with his FB.

-Senior LHP Brock Broussard: An uncommitted southpaw for the Rams, Broussard finished last season with a 1-1 record and 6 saves with a 4.21 ERA.

With a deep pitching staff, a solid mix of experienced and emerging talent, and a clear vision from Coach Courtier, the Acadiana Rams are a team to watch in the always tough District 3-5A. Their journey to Sulphur could culminate in something special, as the Rams are try to make history by bringing Acadiana their first baseball state championship in school history.
