2025 Team Preview: Archbishop Hannan High School
February 5, 2025
The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State. Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches. If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook
After a .500 season in 2024 and a second-round playoff exit, the Archbishop Hannan Hawks are poised for a strong 2025 campaign under the leadership of Head Coach Chris Garrett. Entering his fourth season at the helm, Garrett has built a culture of hard work and competitiveness, and this year’s team boasts a combination of experience and depth, particularly on the mound.
Coach Garrett shared his optimism about the group, saying, “Very excited about this group. This team will go as far as the leadership of our seniors. They are a close group that competes hard every day. If we can stay healthy, I like where we are.”
The Hawks have a deep and talented rotation led by a group of experienced senior arms. This will likely be the backbone of the team and a key factor in their success. With a senior-heavy roster, this team has the maturity and game experience needed to compete in high-pressure situations.
Senior Owen Stempel headlines the group of returning starters. The former Senior Future Gamer and Southeastern Louisiana recruit was a 1st Team All-District performer in 2024. Stempel sports a fastball up to 90-91 mph from a lower release height, which allows his heater to play best up in the zone.
Senior Patrick Kennedy will be another crucial piece of the pitching staff. Seniors Brody Smith, Sammy Loeb, Mikey Relle, and Reed Long are all returning veteran position players for the Hawks this spring. Loeb and Relle were both 1st Team All-District selections last year.
With six key seniors returning, the Hawks will need their veterans to guide the team through the ups and downs of a competitive season. Depth is important, but avoiding injuries to key players will be critical if the Hawks want to make a deep playoff run. While pitching will be the team’s strength, timely hitting and execution at the plate will determine how far this group can go.
The 2025 Archbishop Hannan Hawks have the pieces to build on last year’s success and emerge as contenders come playoff time. With a deep pitching staff and a roster full of experienced seniors, Coach Garrett’s squad has all the tools needed to make a significant postseason push. If the team’s leaders can rally the group and maintain focus throughout the season, the Hawks could be in for a memorable 2025 season.
