2025 Team Preview: Ascension Episcopal School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Ascension Episcopal Blue Gators are poised to build on the lessons learned during their 2024 campaign, which saw a young and inexperienced squad navigate the growing pains of breaking in new starters at key positions. With the majority of last year’s contributors returning, the team’s experience and chemistry should lead to a more relaxed and confident approach in 2025. Head Coach Lonny Landry enters the season optimistic that the Blue Gators’ strengths in pitching and defense will serve as the foundation for a deep playoff run.

A major key to the Blue Gators’ success this season will be their performance on the mound. Senior LHP Hayden Pearson is expected to carry the bulk of the pitching load.  Pearson, a UL-Lafayette recruit, sports a heavy fastball into the low-90's with feel for a firm slider.  He'll be complemented by a talented and battle-tested supporting cast that includes senior arms Jackson Devey and Andre Fontenot, junior Preston Peebles, and sophomore Sport Gros. Each of these players gained valuable mound time last year, which should pay dividends as they continue to develop and contribute in high-pressure situations.

Defensively, the Blue Gators boast a versatile lineup with multiple players capable of excelling in various roles. Senior catcher Luke Falgout, a three-year starter, will anchor the defense and provide veteran leadership behind the plate. His ability to manage the pitching staff and control the game defensively will be critical to the team’s overall success.

Junior Hudson Campbell is another returning two-year starter who proivides consistency in the outfield, while sophomore Austin Adams looks to build on a fantastic freshman campaign.

With multiple players capable of excelling at multiple positions, the Blue Gators have the flexibility to adjust to matchups and game situations effectively.

The Blue Gators enter the 2025 season with renewed confidence and a clear identity built around pitching and defense. If their experienced arms can deliver consistent performances on the mound and the lineup continues to gel offensively, this team has the potential to make noise in the playoffs. With a senior-heavy core led by Hayden Pearson, Luke Falgout, Jackson Devey, and Andre Fontenot, Ascension Episcopal is well-positioned to contend for a deep postseason run.

Coach Lonny Landry’s squad knows the path to success will not be easy, but with the lessons learned from last year’s challenges and the talent on this year’s roster, the Blue Gators are ready to rise to the occasion.
