2025 Team Preview: Barbe High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Barbe Bucs enter the 2025 season hungry to claim their 13th state championship. Coming off another stellar campaign in 2024, Head Coach Glenn Cecchini and company return a wealth of talent and experience but face a few key challenges in their quest for another ring.

Barbe returns six starters from the 2024 team, including eight players who had at least 30 plate appearances last season. These returning hitters were responsible for 57% of the team’s plate appearances and 56% of its hits, demonstrating the foundation for a potent and battle-tested lineup.

One of the biggest returning players is senior catcher Presley Courville, who hit .400 in limited action.  The University of Texas recruit has been a starter since his freshman year, and is widely viewed as the best defensive catcher in the state.

Joining him is a dynamic supporting cast, which includes seniors Cameron Stutes and Brit Vick. Stutes hit at a .317 clip with 2 HR and 22 RBI last season, while Vick hit .268 with with 18 RBI and a .402 OBP.  Vick has had a really good offseason for the Bucs and they're confident that he's going to take a big step forward this spring.

Juniors Myles Ledoux, J.D. Alexander, and Ja'Derryian Washington are also back in the fold for the Bucs this season.  Ledoux finished last season as the team's leadoff hitter, after posting a .368 AVG with 17 RBI and a .491 OBP.  Washington hit .301 with 16 RBI and 20 SB.  Alexander's sophomore spring ended early due to an injury, but the Bucs will be looking for him to get back to where he was as a freshman, when he hit .349 with 3 HR and 28 RBI on Barbe's 2023 State Title team.

Sophomore sensation Jordin Griffin looks to improve on what was a stellar freshman campaign.  Griffin finished last season with a .341 AVG, 6 2B, 4 3B, and a .492 OBP.

There's also several newcomers that the Bucs are excited about on the offensive side of things as well.  Senior Brecken Bordelon is a recent addition to the team and was an All-District performer a season ago at St. Louis Catholic.  Bordelon is a versatile defender, which should help the Bucs lineup, as they boast several two-way guys.

Junior Haden Heath has had a tremendous fall for the Bucs and is a physical right-handed hitter that is competing for a starting role, after hitting .355 with 9 RBI in 31 at-bats last season.  Sophomore Lawton Littleton, the returning staff ace, is also competing for a spot in the everyday lineup.  Another guy who has had a good off-season is junior Gillen McGee, who is a good runner and is a threat on the bases.

Defense is expected to be one of the hallmarks of the 2025 Bucs squad, with six returning players who excel in the field. Barbe posted a .971 fielding percentage in 2024, the third-best mark in program history, and they are poised to build on that success.

Ja’Derryian Washington will shift to shortstop, where his elite range and smooth glove work could make him the linchpin of the infield.
Presley Courville and Myles Ledoux provide versatility, combining strong defensive tools with the ability to play multiple positions.

Speed and aggression on the bases will again be a key weapon for Barbe. The returning hitters accounted for 100 of the team’s 171 stolen bases in 2024, and players like Griffin (13 SB) and Washington (20 SB) give the Bucs the ability to create havoc for opposing defenses.

This senior class has been part of 18 playoff games, compiling a 14-4 record. Their postseason experience will be critical for navigating tough competition. The returning lineup boasts strong playoff performances, including a .313 team batting average and key contributions from players like Ledoux and Griffin.

The primary challenge for the 2025 Bucs will be on the mound. The team returns only 80 of the 256 innings pitched in 2024, leaving a young and untested staff to shoulder significant responsibility.

Sophomore LHP Lawton Littleton is expected to lead the rotation after a stellar freshman season where he went 8-3 with a 1.21 ERA and 76 K's across 57 2/3 IP.

The next most experienced returning arm is junior Ja’Derryian Washington, who excelled in limited innings (0.93 ERA), and promising arms such as senior LHP Jairus Miller who went 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA and 21 K's across 16 IP last spring.  Junior RHP's Drew Galt and Noah Robles have also been good over the offseason for the Bucs and both will have an important role on this year's pitching staff.

The Bucs will feature a lineup loaded with talent and playoff experience, a defense that could be among the best in program history, and an aggressive approach on the bases. While the pitching staff’s lack of varsity innings presents a challenge, the Bucs have several high-upside arms who could step up and fill the void.

Under the leadership of Coach Cecchini, Barbe looks primed to make another run at the Non-Select D-I State Title. With their combination of skill, experience, and pedigree, don’t be surprised to see the Bucs back in the State Championship series later this spring.
